Semi epic camp conclusion : 9 days total

This is the end …

Sun : 33 mi ride, strong winds (70 kph) > 33 pts

9 days total : 225 pts

Well, I’m sick as a dog, but I trudge on. Running in wet 30 degree weather when you have a bad cough and raw lungs is not fun.

Sunday: 13 mile run 52 pts

total points: 388

On the run today, I started arbitrarily awarding and docking people points. I docked this young guy one gajillion points for driving his car four houses to the Dunkin’ Donuts. We’re talking less than 300 feet. I awarded those points to the 70+ year old guy who was also running, in a gray sweat suit with matching scali cap(or whatever they’re called).

It’s Sunday night here, so my nine days is over. Just a normal week, really, but lame on the swimming and low on the cycling in exchange for quality running:

Swim 2500m = 25 pts.
Bike 195 miles = 195 pts.
Run 86 miles = 345 pts.

TOTAL = 565 points

Sunday - 14.5 miles in a blustery and cold wind for 58 pts. Total for the 9 days - a measly 389 pts. Given the time of year and the weather conditions not bad. Looking forward to the April session when I will be on spring break and able to pump up the numbers - especially the bike which is my weak area.

Congrats to all of the first virtual epic camp. It was fun watching those numbers come in and some the great/not so great comments.

Larry

You are way too much of a stud Francois. I hope you smoke IM France.

Great week Francois et al.
I am done (well done:)

8.March 20th (Saturday) 6hrs bike, 75m (~+7000ft): 75pts.
9.March 21st (Sunday) 3hr run, 17m (+1500ft) +8m: 76pts.

ToT: 503pts with a bit of climbing (~20k.ft)

Probably overdid it on Thursday’s run, the last three quarters of a mile was up-hill and covered in about 5 inches of snow, I went for it anyway and am now suffering with a swollen achilles probably from being in tip-toes up the hill. Consequently zero points for Friday and Saturday, but cheered myself up with a 4000m swim today. So 385 points for the total.

Recap:
3/13 48mi bike rolling
3/14 1k swim + 13mi run very hilly !
3/15 3k swim + 5mi run
3/16 30mi bike flat
3/17 3k swim + 9mi run
3/18 28mi bike hilly
3/19 1,7k swim + 8mi run (AT!)
3/20 bike 73mi (4h30’ - 117km - 1500m total elevation - a lot of headwind - positive sensations)
3/21 run 8mi (15’warmup+10x(500m fast rec. 500m slow)

Virtual Camp Total = 437 points

What about the next one ?
… anyway tomorrow REST DAY !!!

Spending time with the family today and begining my taper for a race next week.

I was away from the internet for the past 10 days or so and I didn’t know that this was going on, but I coincidentally had similar goals in mind that you all had.

Here are my numbers,

Sat: 2700, 108, 0 (135 points)

Sun: 0, 118, 3 (127 points)

Mon: 0, 116, 3.5 (127)

Tue: 5000, 42, 15 (152 points)

Wed: 0, 110, 0 (110 points)

Thur: 1600, 104, 6 (140 points)

Friday: 3000, 121, 0 (151 points)

Sat : 0, 0, 8 (32 points)

Sun: 0, 0, 21 (84 points)

I’ll probably still swim and spin this afternoon, if I can get in the pool. As you can see, most days were really cycling focused and all the sessions contained quite a lot of intensity. I had hoped for a little more balance, but the intensity and terrain of the rides always zapped me for more than I had intended.

Total points: 1058, I think. Maybe I’ll try to get it over 1100 before the week is over.

Justin D

3/21 72 mi ride = 72pts
4.5 mi = 18 pts
Total = 100

9 day total 401.

Thanks a lot Dan for providing the fun.

Sunday’s totals

Rode the rollers for a little more than an hour. I was watching the Luz-Ardiden stage of the tour and I couldn’t quit until Lance finished. Had some food and then did a combo trail/road run for 12 miles.

Bike 19 pts, Run 48pts Total 67

9 Day total Points 504

The Final day:
Bike: 55 miles, hilly. 55 pts.
Run: 4 miles - 16 pts.
Total for day 9: 71 pts.

Total for day 1-9: 522 pts.

This was a lot of fun. I added workouts that I normally don’t do, and I didn’t bag a few that I wanted to because I was tired. Thanks Dan for providing the motivation. I have my 1st tri of the year next weekend. I won’t feel guilty taking it easy this coming up week.

Done, wow. I seriously have to thank Dan E and all the other Semi Camp participants, as without that inspiration my total mileage for these 9 days would surely have been lower. I also think it is awesome to have great friends who add a bit of a social aspect to some these training units, plus of course some draft help on those windy days from hell. Chattanooga buddies who stood out in terms od such “services” were Martin F, Mike M, John M, David B, Rick L, Jeremiah M and Mark M, and most of them will be doing IM Florida.
So here is the tally: Days 1-8 417 points
March 21, Day 9: 54 mile bike 54 points
6 mile run 24 points
Total: 495 points
Doh, I thought my previous total was 423, but now realizing my mistake, nothing will get me outside to run another mile 1/2 to hit 500 points.

Oh, one more thing, I need to thank George S, another 04 IM Florida participant for the setup with the date with Charlotte tonight.

ran 11.5 this morning including 4km of rolling hills. It was beautiful outside, cloudy, cool and windless. Ate breakfast talked w/ the wife and opened up the garagae door to ride. Holy crap, a stiff wind that was avg 20mph and it was already 92 degrees. All in 1 hour. Rode 35 avg 11mph on the way out, totally trashed the legs and avg 27mph on the way back easy spinning. So 81 points added to my 431 gives me 512.
Totals for the camp =68 miles running and 242 cycling

Thanks Slowman for taking the initiative on this and inspiring some big volume performances among the crew. You had me by a couple of points going into today and, in the end, I think you probably got me:

Sat: 64 (13 mile run/1200 swim)
Sun: 55 (ride)
Mon: 68 (3000 swim/big gym session/2 mile run)
Tue: 50 (18 mile ride/8 mile run)
Wed: 54 (2200 swim/8 mile run)
Thurs: 57 (3000 swim/27 bike)
Fri: 50 (2000 swim/big gym session)
Sat: 83 (75 ride/2 run)
Sun 60 (15 run)

So that is:

11400 swim; 175 ride; 48 run = 481 + 60 = 541

Great job by all of the participants. We may not be “epic” by Molina/Gordo standards…but we have day jobs.

8-Day Total - 293 pts

Sunday

Rode 61 miles - 61 pts

Ran 4 miles - 16 pts

Day 9 = 77 pts

9-Day Total - 370 pts

.

my kickstart to spring (in a minor way) 40 more biking and running - 254

next to Francois, I think I come up to his knee
.

previous total: 224

22.6 mile ride - 22 pts

2 mile run off the bike - 4 pts

Total: 250

Unscored activities: about 2 hours of Yoga, 90 minutes in the gym

Mr. Francois do you know how your numbers compare with what other pro’s are doing?

So I was just trying to figure from an aerobic perspective where my last week of XC ski season fit into the the semicamp. Next week, I’ll start gradually rolling over to real tri training as my first races are 3 months away (Mukoka Long Course and Tupper Lake Half Iromman).

9 day totals, assuming 1 mile XC ski ~2.5 points

Sat: 33 Mile XC ski ( 3hour) = 82 pts

Sun: 25 Mile XC ski (2.33 hour) = 62 pts

Mon: 10 Mile run (75 min) = 44 pts

Tue: 20 Mile XC ski (2 hour) = 50 pts

Wed: 8 Mile Run (1 hour) = 32 pts

Thu: Rest day = 0 pts

Friday: 10 mile roller ride to loosen up before last ski race of the season, drive 8 hours to race = 10 pts

Sat: 50K XC ski race 3000 ft vertical (2:38…took 16 min off time from last year) + 5K warmup and cooldown = 82 pts

Sun: 10 mile roller ride, 3 mile run = 22 pts

9 day total for parallel virtual nordic ski camp = 384 pts

Hopefully, the next virtual camp is after I finish my active rest period and start real tri training around April 15th ! Slowman, thanks for organizing this. It is interesting and motivating to see what everyone has been up to !
