I’m guessing that if you guys/gals kept up with your training post Semi-Camp (with lower volume of course) the fatigue might be catching up to some of you. I did a similar week the week previous to Semi with Justin D. (he coninued to truck on and on and on and…) that totalled out @ 33.5hrs, most of it on the bike. I felt great until to the latter part of my recovery week last week That’s when the fatigue really started to show it’s ugly self (bleh). I’d like to hear your experiences, and how you developed your post semi-camp recovery.
semi-camp came up on me almost by surprise. I did not have it planned into my schedule. Did not go hog wild, but did bump my training up a bit to earn some extra points.
Coming out of semi-camp I was entering a 4th week of a training cycle. I looked at my race calendar and traing plan and decided to try and hang on for one more large (for me) training week (this week) before going into a recovery week. This all plays out well in relation to training and A races this spring.
I really felt tired and washed out on Monday and Tuesday. Had to focus hard on keeping the work outs at a steady state rate. Went to following my HR monitor even more religiously this week. I got a bit of a bounce back Wednesdaya nd Thursday. Don’t exactly feel great, but no deep feelings of tiredness nor being more sore/stiff than normal.
I didn’t train much at all last week with some notable exceptions being the 105 mile long ride and a tough hill-climb on Saturday. It was a little more than my out of shape legs are used to and I’m still feeling some effects this week. Not too bad but I can tell that sompin’s amiss…
I ended semicamp with a trail race and that trashed my legs pretty good. I’m feeling decent today and this week was suppose to be a recovery week so it worked out well. It looks like I’ll be getting like 220 points this week.
I did about 33 hours during the camp. It was all mostly scheduled already, but the camp kept me honest. I am glad to hear others are feeling the way I am. Even though this was already a R&R week for me, it hasn’t been until today that I have really felt like getting workouts in. Also, the absence of workouts is also why I am posting so much in this forum the last couple of days.
The semicamp was in the week before my last XC ski race, so I ended up at 384 pts (Dan agreed to give me 2.5 pts for each mile of XC skiing…kind of in between running and biking). This week I’m doing my last XC ski week of the season before the snow all goes away. Once I was over the soreness from my race last Sat, I felt ready to do some more training, so this was my week so far:
Mon: Run easy 12 miles = 48 pts
Tue: XC ski easy 22miles = 55 pts
Wed: XC ski tempo 25 miles = 62 pts
Thu: XC ski easy 22 miles = 55pts
Fri: Run easy 12 miles = 48 pts
Total for 5 days = 268 pts
I’ll do another 4 hours of training this weekend and might get out on the road with the bike given that the temps should be good. After this week though, its two weeks of active rest (5-7 hours a week easy) before I start piling on miles for the tri season.
