Sat
50 mile bike - first time on the road this year; 40 F in MI is chilly but I couldn’t stand the basement one more ride.
That was proceeded by 2800 M swim of 100 repeats. Total for the day 78
Sun
13 mile run. Remember the nice wx yesterday? Snow this morning w/ wind in the face all the way back. Question - who goes out and inflates the hills after I run over them on the way out? Total for the day 52.
Looking forward to IMMOO!
Larry
Saturday Brick: 45mile bike 7 mile run = 73pts
Sunday: 13 mile run, 15 mile bike = 67 pts
.
Ahhh,
Swam about 1500 yards (maybe a little more, I forgot) with F.A.S.T. club Saturday: 15 points.
Slept twelve hours Saturday night: Deduct 50 points.
Score: -35 points.
Tom,
LOL That’s cool since you are in the recovery zone post IMNZ. By-the-by, going to be sending a guy your way concerning fit/maybe new bike.
Larry
Thank you Larry, we’ll take good car of him. Got a name?
Tom, how’s your recovery going?
btw 1 500 yards = 1 371.6 meters, but we’ll give it to ya because you’re post IM.
Oh, oops. Duy.
My recovery has been good. We’ve been very busy here in the store and I did have to pull one all-nighter here last week (Thursday) to finish bikes that were being picked up on Saturday but other than that no worries.
The damage is amazing. I missed the sun-screen person coming out of T2. Huge mistake. The sunburn I got was amazing. My ankles are still pretty swollen from it right now. I haven;t gained the weight back fully (lost 6 kilos according to weigh-in, weigh-out at the medical tent) and am still down about 4 pounds. Not a problem, I had it to lose. Overall, I am 16 pounds lighter now than I was 27 weeks ago.
I got some kind of a chaf mark from my running singlet that is full-on infected right now. Annoying. I put neosporin on it. No worries.
You know, the odd thing is, I just want to go out and do a long run or a long ride. -Can’t say I’mm itching to do another 4 hour Computrainer ride just now, but the concept of that seems so easy now compared to three months ago. Now, its just what you do to get ready. No big deal.
I really want to figure out a way to do IM Switzerland. It is a matter of time and money, like everything.
Overall, I think if I am chomping the bit to do another Ironman becasue I know I can go faster that is a good sign that my recovery is there. IMNZ was a blast. Awesome. I’m ready (in my head) for another right now. -Damn this beat up old body.
Thanks for asking.
Saturday, won my AG for the first time in a triathlon. I was told I beat all the master’s too, don’t know that for sure.
Total: 5 points swimming, 15 points biking, 20 points running, 8 points driving (it took eight hours!)…40 points.
Sunday: 25 points biking. I think I should get some extra points for doing it on Powercranks.
At least I’m finally (after 6 months of stress/moving/junk) motivated to get out there and train for a change…maybe this virtual semi-epic camp is just what I needed to get started good. I think the most points I’ve ever put in during a week is 168…not big by any means. I’m going to try and see if I can make it 200 points.
Oh, first ride on my Arione saddle today…very nice! Thanks to Tom for his writeup about it…I finally found something to replace my Flite.
That’s really cool. I love to hear that. Great job!

8 mile run - 32 points - and sprained my ankle so cant run for next 3 days!
Sun
60 mile bike ride - 60 points
Total 231 points - though should minus 30 for falling asleep for 2.5 hours on sunday arvo!
Robert and Sam have done more in two days than I think I’ve ever done in a week! I take that back, it’s more than I’ve done in recent history. I remember about 20 years ago I rode from Greenville, SC to Gatlinburg, TN in one day…9 hour trip, four tough climbs, 154 miles. Took two days to come back! But, like I said, that was 20 years ago…
Saturday
53.4 mile ride + 6.5 mile transition run (brick) = 79 points
Sunday:
17.4 mile run = 69 points
But I’m on my coach’s schedule for the rest of the week, so that’s it for Semicamp for me…
These numbers are starting to make me wonder a few things. If I did actually put in these kinds of points, could I really become good? Or, how in the world am I able to place in any race on such few points? Or, are you guys just insane? Or, am I just being smart not to do so much at my age what with overuse injury and all? Or, am I just a wuss?
I guess I just don’t go slow enough (a relative term, I know) when I do find time to train, in order to be able to put in these distances day after day. I don’t really have recovery workouts, they’re all pretty much right up there about 85% of my maximum output. When I’ve got time to train, I HAVE to get maximum effect out of the workout. I DO try and have a longer, slower period during the winter where I try to go longer on runs with low effort, but, that’s not a fun way to ride a bike on a trainer, or out in the cold, or any other time as far as I’m concerned. And I can’t swim slow, because I sink fast.
You guys amaze me.
I don’t swim so i’m losing a few points. might have to go splash in the tub.
Run 23 miles between sat and sun = 92
Biked a whopping 1 time for totaling 53
grand total = 143 w/ a nice run in the rain to boot
I was going to start on Saturday, but I got very little sleep the previous week. Saturday night everything at work fell apart. I’m working all day and night today to patch it all up again. Can I start on Tuesday night?
Okay, here goes–
Sat: Biked 50 including an imagined sprint race up Torrey Pines (inside the park) with a gal on a lovely purple Moots. I was hurling snot and huffing like a dragon. She was spinning in zen-like calm. Thus, 50 points for the initial effort, but minus 5 because she was in far better shape than I and her bike was drop-dead gorgious. Lifted for 1 hour (chest/shoulders)–arbitrary 2 points just because it really friggin hurt (I lift on weekends rather than swim). Drank four Tecates that evening after eating a relatively healthy meal of roasted chicked and baby green beans. Minus 5 points because I forgot I had a bottle of Fullers in the back of the fridge that would have gone down better than the Tecates (not that they were bad). Daily total: 42.
Sun: Ran 5, mostly hills. +20. Lifted again, back, bi’s and quads. +2…it really friggin hurt again. .5 of core/ab strength work including obliques, which I hate with a passion. +1 for motivation. Now I’m cranky, whiny and sore. -2 for poor attitude this evening. Also meant to swing by some LBSs today to start measuring my fit on a new tri bike…but I procrastinated and ate a bunch of Easter candy in stead. -1. Daily total: 20.
Tomorrow will probably be limited to swimming only, although the Rubios I eat for lunch will negate any benefits, but damn those carnitas burritos are good…Time to go drink that Fullers…
Day 1 (31): Bike: 25, Run 6.
2 Lacrosse Games, 1 Mayor’s Cup, daughter scored hardware x2 – priceless
Day 2 (31): Bike: 15, Run 16
1 Lacrosse game and a SEC Championship!
Looks like a bop finish!
