I don’t play my viola anymore; decided to sell it on craigslist to finance bike/tri stuff. Maybe I’ll be practical and spend the proceeds on textbooks or something. Doubtful.
I’ve never bought or sold anything on craigslist before.
I might decide to sell on ebay, too. But I’m not optimistic there, since I have no feedback. I’ve bought a half dozen things on ebay before, but nobody ever leaves me feedback afterwards.
I think it depends where you are. I like CL because of the local factor - you come to me, or we met, and do the deal. That said, my experience with CL here is that you always have to take into consideration the CL ‘discount’ factor - be prepared for offers of 50% of the price you’re asking… again, in my experience…

Personally I prefer the ebay route. I end up making less, they/paypal keep my money and make interest on it for a bit, but the ease of transaction is what I’m all about. Also it’s not the easiest thing with our schedules to make time to meet someone and potentially not have a deal happen. Much easier to let the online masses at it and that’s one trip to fedex to ship and be done with it.
