I think I read something here earlier about San Marco replacing rails for broken saddles? Aspide tri went kaput. Anyone know how I can get contact info for San Marco or its distributor? Google came up with nothing.
Navi,
I recently posted a thread about my borken rail to my S-S-M Azoto trigel. I did contact the SSM distributor for the USA and they were helpful. Unfortunately, the rails are NOT covered under warranty, but for US$30 they will reaplce the rails - this includes mailing to/from Italy. Beats having to totally trash a +$120 saddle!
Contact info as follows:

Hope this helps,
aloha, Mark
Remember that ti rails should be somewhat center on the seat post. If the saddle is set extremely forward like alot of triathletes do, the rails are much more likely to break. Same goes for extreme setback. The manganese or alloy rails rarely snap.
Hey Hairy,
Did you send yours back? If so are you gonna replace with the same rails? My Apside broke and it has hallow ti rails. I wish they made them in straight alum or steel!
Navi,
Have not sent it back yet. I only sent the e-mail to the distributrr last week and have not had a chance to package it up.
Someone (on my previous thread back a few weeks ago) did say that the hollow Ti rails on the Aspide (your saddle) has a higher tensile strength, BUT the problem I experienced is that they fail in shear, in a brittle mode, so you basically need cross sectional area in combination with high strength to prevent the failure mode. I agree that CroMoly or Mg would be better - I doubt Alum would work. I may ask the distributor if other rail materials are an option.
I purchased a new Azoto and have re-positioned it so it is near central to the mount, as suggested by JJ. So far, so good.
LOL, dude I’m right here in Honolulu. Where did you get your saddle? Gary’s? Called him yesterday and he has one aspide waiting for me. That usually means he “thinks” he has one somewhere in that shop.
Navi, bloody small world!
Got my Azoto at IT&B. Gary’s is an amazing shop, and unbelievable prices too!
I noticed my broken rail about an hour before MAG-24 tri back in mid May, and had Keauhou the next week so I dropped another $120 to replace it.
Are you doing Honu in Kona this weekend?
Small world indeed. Just had a baby girl so wife and I had to cancel Keauhou, no off-island races this year. Except for a trip to Cali in Sept as a birthday gift for myself. Looking at either Big Kahuna or LA tri.
I broke both rails this week during a ride. I actually finished the ride. Thank God never crash. Are you doing Honu. Good odds in getting a Kona slot. Some AG just has to finish to get the slot.
Heard some locals forgot to submit the residency paperwork in time so basically TS for them!
Navi
Congrats on the baby girl. My wife and I have 4 daughters (6 years to 12 years) - keeps us busy, but no diapers - oh I remember those diaper days.
Yep, I am doing Honu, best odds I will ever have. I am M40-44 AG. 2 slots and 10 competing athletes.
If you are doing TINMAN I wil try and meet up with you there.
aloha,
Mark
