Selle san marco Azoto saddle-- opinions?

Anyone ride/try one of these and what are your thoughts? I am looking for a narrower saddle than my SLR Gel Flow and considering the Azoto, but the side seam seems really rough and am wondering whether anyone has problems with rubbing caused by that seam?

Especially interested in reviews by women. Thanks  Ziva

Are you talking road or Tri version? I hade the tri, I thought it was too big and too hard. I love the Arione road saddle, it’s narrow and comfortable I just got an Arione Tri, can’t tell yet.

I don’t have any problem with rubbing, but I can’t imagine it’s any skinnier than your current saddle (the azoto is pretty wide.)

It’s an okay saddle. It’s better than a road saddle, but I can’t say whether or not it’s the best tri saddle.

No likey.

In a race in which I wore a speedo the inside of my upper legs were quite chaffed rubbing against the sides of the saddle. With tri shorts it’s not a problem since the material covers the area.

It’s not a narrow saddle. I only give it a B- in terms of comfort. I like my Fizik Arione much better.

Hey thanks for the replies:

I am not concerned with the width of the nose, more like the middle part between the nose and the wings. Again, I dont care how wide the wings are, it’s a matter of how quickly the transition between nose-wings happens. It’s the middle part that chafes me, because thats where the seam from the chamois or bikini and my thighs all meet the saddle. I want a narrow ‘middle-saddle-part’ so I can sit on my sit-bones and not have to slide forward to avoid the above all chafing together.

I was looking at the Azoto triathlon gel, with the velour nose cover, and the normal azoto with the neoprene (that one looks really hard and uncomfortable though, but its cheaper.) this will be my third saddle, I dont want to waste more $$$. I am just not having any luck finding one that works.

I am concerned with the rubbing as I need the saddle to work with a wet bikini bottom for short course/olympic tris.

Anyone want to recommend a saddle that works with big legs and a bikini?

I have one and I like the nose and the middle section in terms of the way they feel, but that seam sucks. It looks nice, but it gives me saddle sores for on long rides. If you are truly only looking to do Sprint & Olympic races you may be fine, though. You won’t be on the bike long enough for it to really cause problems (unless you like to ride long on the weekends just for the F of it, which many of us do sometimes whether training for long course or no). I don’t have too much of a problem w/ it until I ride longer than 4 hrs.

Darn. I do ride 4hrs+ on the weekends. Thanks for the advice. I suppose I have yet a while to keep looking for that perfect saddle… :frowning:

I’ve been using the Azoto for about 3 years and love them. I have one on each of my TT bikes. The only problem I’ve had is the Selle San Marco has the Ti rails and I’ve broken 3 of them clean in half. I then went to the same saddle in the VisionTech/FSA version that has the steel rails and have NO problems at all. I have NO rubbing and have done races up to and including the full IM’s. I sit mainly on the nose of the saddle.

For me the nose is too soft. The width isn´t aan aissue aalthough I have seen somenewer versions which seem to use a different nose covering ?

No likey either…

I’ve go the Vision model that is just like the Azoto and feel that it is fairly narrow untill you get to the wings, then it gets wide fast. Because it is narrow in the middle of the saddle I’ve had to slide it forward pretty far.

Thanks! I looked into the Vision and noone selling those in the area :frowning:

For all that answered on the Azoto, is the Aspide thriathlon or road any better than the Azoto? Definitely more $$.

ebay, baby! I saw an Arione tri for a buy it now price of $89 this week. Or go with the Arione and a saddle cover.

I’d been having similar saddle problems and finally found a tri saddle I love. It’s made by Blackwell, a company based in Texas. It’s rather oddly shaped, with cutouts on the wings, but it feels tailor-made for a woman’s form. Check them out. If you can’t find them, contact me. Good luck.

I have an Aspide and it is fine. But I am a nose riding male. This seat is now on my trainer, which gets plenty of use.

I have a Terry Fly, which I love because (for long course) it is very soft, then the cut out lets me hop back into the middle of the seat for a change of pace. I definitely like the split saddles. I have sat on the new specialized in a shop and think that might be interesting to try. I have tried the Arione, and can’t understand why people rave over it. It seems just like a lot of others…Flex wings? huh?

I think, more than anything, trying out several seats is the way to go. I imagine that there are so many different ones and their fit is so individual, that you’ll never know unless you ride a couple of times with serveral different ones.

I have the additional problems of being in Europe, (pretty much every store just carries SelleItalia or SelleSanMarco) and having no extra $$$ to spend. I’ve identified that my problem lies with wide middle-saddle-sections so I dont want to buy another one just ti test it out. And, used saddles creep me out. I dont want to place my #$% where someone stranger put his. yuck.

Is there a site for this Blackwell saddle?

Thanks to all and keep any recommendations coming.

Here’s the link to the Blackwell saddle I wrote you about earlier. I know that this company markets primarily in Germany, so you might be in luck.
