I had a retul fit a few weeks ago and one thing that stuck out to the fitter is how far forward i sit. He said most people dont ride far enough forward but im a bit of an exception to the rule. I had an angle of 82 degrees, i have no idea wether thats steep or not. This probably also explains why i suck when riding my roadie too. I feel like i push/pedal more forward on that rather than down. But i was curious, is there such a thing as too steep? What effect does the seat angle have on the run etc? help school me
This is old but I think it is still valid and a good read…

82 is fairly steep, but not unusually so. Many folks are set up in the high 70s, but end up nose-sitting and riding in the low 80s.
FVL (83deg.)
Rinny (90deg.) actually 88, forgot to adjust for the non-level pic
Geez rinny is wayyy forward I don’t feel so bad now

There’s a difference between STA and effective STA. The latter is where your weight is supported relative to the BB. Problem is that most bikes are designed around the seat tube, not the point at which the rider’s weight is supported, and then you end up with too much weight on the front of the bike (front wheel is too close). Handling gets wicked. Need that rear wheel tucked in a close as possible (and thus the attraction of 650c wheels even in larger sizes). But “the industry” wants to throw around a bunch of BS about why 650’s are so bad…
My take is that too steep is when you create problems you’re not willing to fix otherwise. Everything is a compromise. Problems created by too steep a seat position can include, too much pressure on the arms, saddle issues, handling issues, and neck issues. One can raise the bars, get a new saddle, get a new frame, or obtain trick glasses to alleviate some of these symptoms. However each of these involves its own compromise. You just have to decide what works for you.

Wait, … what? There are trick glasses to be had? Where do I find such trick glasses, so I can keep my eyeballs from going buggy after 112 miles?
Or was the pink implied?
view speed sells them
Also possibly alibaba or “trick” magic shops (prism glasses) - No idea what/if the quality difference between any of that is. Looks dangerous regardless.

My Yaqui has a ~81* seat tube. I have the saddle nose 5cm in front of the bb, and I ride on the tip of it. So…it’s possible to go very far forward.
A key to this working is that the Yaqui has a long front-center. 72* headtube with 45mm offset fork. Allows all that weight to be out front, yet still ride stable.

All that front center is what keeps the weight from going out front…
FWIW, I used to have my seat as far forward as possible - round 82 / 83 degrees - and suffered with sore quads on long rides, particularly climbing … Always just thought it was because I wasn’t strong / fit enough
Went for a Retul fit, seat moved back to 79 deg, and its made a big difference. No more quad soreness, more power. I think the Fitter said the seat so far forward was making me use my quads too much to pedal and not engaging my hamstrings enough…
