Seat Post recommendations please

I’m riding a stock QR Kilo ('01). Recently got a new saddle.

Moved my Minoura rear mount to the new saddle, this somewhat limits the forward slide available on the rails/seat post. My prior saddle with Minoura was all the way forward and I was pretty happy with that positioning. But now the new saddle just won’t go forward enough, comes up a good cm or more short of where the old was. Tried reversing the seat post, no help. It’s a stock alum seat post with some set back.

My question: what seat posts out there allow for the greatest range of fore/aft, and even tilt, adjustment? Any reason I should avoid carbon?

I’m thinking a Profile Fast Forward might take me too far forward, but if it allows for a long slide back maybe not.

Or, are seat posts relatively similar, so it’s more about the saddle construction and rails. I doubt this, but it’s crossed my mind.

All tips appreciated.

I’m currently looking to put a Corima elipse seapost on my ride. 3cm’s of setback or setforward. The only catch is sizing is pretty specific.

  • *I think Thompson makes a post that isn’t as severe as the Profile. I recently switched to a Thompson zero set back.

Thompson is also the “reasonable price leader” I did the math one day…it is something like $50.00 a gram for the weight savings of some of the “lighter” posts out there.

The Thomson setback model can be used either facing forward or rearward. Between the two positions you’ve got a very wide continuous range, they do overlap slightly. This makes it an extremely adaptable post.

I used this post to experiment with a more forward position on my roadbike. But I got tired of swapping it back and forth for TTs and road riding, and didn’t like the skittish handling. So I got smart and bought a second hand P2K. (Still not sure how I got the wife to sign off on that.) Now I’ve left the Thomson on the road bike facing backwards, some people don’t like the bent look but I think it’s cool.

I considered the Profile post but it wasn’t that much less expensive, a ton heavier and seemed nowhere near the quality of the Thomson.

Edit: If you’re on a budget, chucksbikes.com has got a very inexpensive forward seatpost. I’d defiitely buy this rather than the profile if the Thomson is too much.

Buy a BEAM!!!

: )

If you are on a budget, get a Weyless carbon fibre post from Supergo.com. Turn it around backwards for more forward saddle position. Its light, softens the harsh aluminum frame ride, and cost around $50 USD. This is the round carbon post. Weyless also makes an aero post, but I have not used it.
