Sealing Asphalt driveway

I am getting my concrete driveway replaced with asphalt. Is it needed or will it help or hurt to seal after it is laid down.

Good question?

We typically have these guys passing through our neighborhood offering the Sealing treatment. However, it seems to be just a cosmetic treatment and I can’t really see how it seals up the ashphalt. Seems like a bit of a scam, but I am open to hearing what the real story is, if there is one.

I was under the impression it might seal the nooks and crannies so water would not get trapped and expand. But I never see them seal asphalt roads.

we just had our drive way replaced with asphalt- looks great and this is the contractors advice:

Resist the temptation to seal your new asphalt driveway. Even under ideal curing conditions where the daytime temperatures are high and nighttime temperatures are balmy, asphalt needs a minimum of 90 days to fully cure and harden. Remember, this is the minimum amount of time. It is best to let your asphalt driveway cure for 6 or 9 months before you think of sealing it.

Thanks for the info and help.
