Sealant in tubular tires

Has anyone tried using sealant, like Stan’s, to plug a whole in a tubular tire. If so, is this a temporary fix?

dont put stans in a tubular tire, itturns into a rubbery ball after a few months, thats fine for a tubeless MTB wheel because you can take it out, it is also fine in a tube with a removable core because tubes are cheap, but in an expensive tubular tire, it would be a big mistake because they are expensive and wou cant open it up to take the ball out. Stans works great, but it does turn into a ball. try tufo in a tubular tire

Do you mean Tufo sealant? Is this stuff a temporary or permanent fix?

yes, tufo sealant, if it seals, then in theory it should be permanent
.

Are you trying this to fix an existing hole or for flat prevention? As flat prevention it causes all kinds of problems because it can gum up your valve stem and cause issues with the seal. I had a tire go flat in transition from a slow leak at the valve. If your tire is already flat then it is worth a try otherwise you just have to throw the thing away.

I’ve used both of Tufo’s sealant regular and extreme and they both worked really well. I think the extreme sealant is for holes or leaks that you can’t repair with the regular sealant.

I’m pretty new to tubulars and couldn’t imagine throwing away a $100 tire once you get a flat. I’m thinking that the sealant could be a permanent fix after a flat.

some tires you can pull off the backing and pull out the tube and patch sew back and re apply backing tape.
easy to do
i don’t throw away tires just cause they flat
