I was wondering if anyone here did Seahorse this past weekend in MI? I had a question about the bike split. First, is “rate” the same as “bike avg”?
The results page says my rate was 21.4. That is HIGH for me given my training and when I wheeled my bike to the car my avg showed up as 19.7. Plus I see that the top guy went 28 mph and several others went higher than 25 mph. Was the course measured correctly? I know they shortened the bike course down due to construction… but still, can those times be legit?
I was looking at the race results for my sister and her avg. bike speed seemed high also (she did the sprint).
Looks like the math they used in the sprint results is based on traveling 11 miles. Was the course shortened to 11(sprint) and 22(oly) miles or was it shorter? Did you take a look at your bike distance on your bike computer as well?
Man, and I was feeling great about my 24.9 mph average…
Unfortunately, the magnet sensor for my computer must have been pushed around on my fork in the car ride to the event and was too far away from the magnet to pick up my speed. However, my girlfriend did the race and was surprised to see 3D’s average read slightly higher than her computer’s average.
3D used 22 miles as the course length. So, if the course is really 20.8 miles, then everyone’s bike speed is about 95% of what the results state.
Jim, what route are those distances for? I ask because prior the race, the route went from Michigan to 46th to Mercury, but on race day was changed to Michigan to Mercury, adding perhaps a mile.
those distances are for the route which was used, transition to MN, to 40th, to Mich Ave., to Mercury, which then turns back in to MN, and back to transition.
i’m checking to see what distances were entered into the system for the results display.
actual should be 10.8 for the short course and 20.8 for the long course give or take a bit.
the courses more than likely will return to the previous route next year unless the county decides to tear something else up.
So the course was shorter than advertised? I sent an email to AnnMarie at 3D the other day about my bike speed. She said my avg was based on 22 miles. You would think they would publish the proper distance.
considering that the changes were in the works right up to Saturday…i’m not that concerned. everyone went the same distance and all times are based on the course which was clearly posted on race morning. i also announced at least a half dozen times what the new distances were figured at. sorry you apparently missed those race day updates. pm me with your ID or race number. i’ll make sure you get an updated rate for your records.
that 3D may not have adjusted the timing system to compute the rate based on the actual distance Saturday night or Sunday morning is not a huge item. there were a few other items higher on the list Saturday night and Sunday morning, including the transition area and tents being blown all over the place around 5 pm Saturday when a storm front moved through rather unceremoniously.
as indicated prior…i’m checking to see what distance was used and whether it is possible to get adjusted results posted if the original data was retained.
