SE MI residents, water temp

Just thought I would pass this along.

The water temp at Spring Mill Pond in the Island Lake rec area is 65 deg F. A little bit on the cool side but no problem for a full suit plus it felt so good to be back in open water. Maybe a few degrees warmer this weekend with all of the warm weather we’re supposed to get this week.

Does anyone put on a triathlon at Island Lake State Recreation Area? While biking there, I saw some people having what appeared to be an informal one last year. I talked to Kenny Krell at 3D Racing several years ago but he said the park administrators weren’t very receptive to the idea of having an organized tri there. Something about having to obey all the stop signs. That may have changed though, since they eliminated one of the stop-signs where the park road crosses under Kensington road.

That would be a GREAT place for a race. The roads are awesome and the you could run the trails like the AA tri. (…not to mention it’s 15 minutes from home.)

If wetsuit sales are any indication the water is quite cold. Wetsuit sales have been strong.

I believe FAST (Ford Athletic ? ? ) used to put on a swim/mountain bike/run at the Island Lake Rec. Maybe about 7 years ago.

You know, being a member of FAST I should probably know. I’ll find out and let you guys know.

FAST put on a sprint tri last summer at the new Island Lake subdivision at Wixom and 10 mile. It’s a few miles east of the park. Very well run, and I’m not just saying that because I won a kayak at the raffle.
