Scott replaceable derailer hanger/crash replacement question?

Although I am a constant lurker on this forum I have decided to come out of hiding to ask about the Scott CR1. I am considering purchasing one after I had the opportunity to ride one about 30 miles; the fit was spot-on and it was by far the most comfortable road frame I have been on. My only real concern is the fact that the the rear hanger is NOT replaceable. I have never owned a frame made this way and I hate to admit it, but racing about 15 crits a year I normally have one or two “get-offs” a season. I am interested to hear everyone’s opinion on this. Should a bike with such a hefty price tag be considered a disposable one for a minor crash that gets the rear drive side? Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

One of my athletes crashed his Scott Plasma after owning it for 4months. He contacted the bike shop, the scott rep and finally someone from Scott USA. All three told him the derailler hanger is not covered by the warranty. It is replaced under the crash policy, about 1000 or 1200 for the plasma if i remember correctly.

Breaking any derailleur hanger on any bike wouldn’t be covered under a warranty, so this is no different. Since we sell these bikes we get quite a few of these questions and I would say this is the biggest concern of the CR1 consumer. The hangars are extremely durable but I wouldn’t say taht they are bullet proof. SCOTT’s crash replacesment program is industry tops and you would get a new frame for $900 if you snapped one off. From a shop point of view, Ive replaced more broken derailleurs from SCOTT CR1, Scale, & Plasmas than I have written up carsh replacement tickets. I wouldn’t worry if I were you, It’s an awesome bike.
