Scott Molina's IMC Age Group PRO Record

I noticed that the IMC age group record for the men’s 30-34 cat is held by Scott Molina who had an amazing 8:33:43 performance in 1990.
I checked out Molina’s website and he says he was a PRO during that time period. I am going to assume that in 1990 there was no such thing as a “PRO” and that everyone was considered an age grouper. Hmmmm. Something doesn’t seem right.
Anyone have some insight on this?

Yes,back in the day the pro’s were considered age groupers for the records, you will notice Ray Browning is in there with an 8:30ish time for his age group…

IMNZ used to pay the first few across the line regardless of category

Thanks for the response. Looking back at all previous results, I see that Eric Flamand from France did an 8:57:55 in 1995 in the 30-34 cat. I have not been able to find results prior to that year but thats the best I found. I am not sure about Browning, but perhaps his record should be changed also.

Erin Baker and Jan Wanklyn are also still listed as age group record holders and yes I agree they should probrably be changed but NAS isn’t really very good at updating their website.

Back in the day, the record would go to whoever is in this AG, and so would the Kona slots. The first year I raced in Roth, you had to contend
with Jurgen Zack, Lothar Leder, Rainer Muller, Thomas Hellriegel and all the pros for Kona slots.

It is sort of paradoxical that certain age group records would not include the faster members of that age group … sort of the fastest of the slower people
