My wife and I are planning on going to Wisconsin for a week starting around October 15th. We want to see fall leaves and pretty scenery. We don’t care for large cities and like waterfalls and pretty rolling hills/mountains.
Is Wisconsin Dells all that it is cracked up to be?
I spent a couple of weeks around La Crosse earlier this year and thought that we would spend a day or two around there if the leaves are changing.
We spent a few days in Bayfield along Lake Superior a few years ago, so we’re not too interested in going back to Superior at this point.
Any suggestions for pretty places to go?
So Wisconsin Dells is well Wisconsin Dells. The elitist snobs look down on the place but it’s Americana. I love it for what it is. Now is it my first choice for a vacation probably not but its 3 hours away and kid friendly.
If you like water parks check it out. If you don’t there are a few things you could do there spending maybe a night or so. (Sundara, riverboat tour, Ishnala, the trains, Devils head)
For colors I’d strongly consider door county. Antiquing and quaint Sconniness. New Glarus is supposed to be cool. I actually like Milwaukee as well and it’s not a big city per se.
This is correct. If Chicagoland folks know anything, it’s WI tourism.
I live in Wisconsin and he is not wrong.
Most people go “up northâ€. I was at the Nicolet National Park for camping once along a spring fed stream. It was glorious. Although, I usually go toward people, not away from them when I go on vacation, so I’m not an “up north†guy.
Oh man, “up north” is a blast from the past term for me. As a kid growing up in WI, anything past Portage was “up north” to me.
