I hope the race goes great for him!
Its crazy what he came back from. Best of luck to Saul!
Can’t wait to see how he does. Good luck Saul!
I don’t see a run time for him. Hope everything is OK.

TOTAL RUN 13.1 mi. (2:02:42) 9:21/mile 243 39
I’m sorry, but that was not a good day…IT WAS A GREAT DAY.
Take away the TBI and crash issues, and look at it from a pure time standpoint and ask yourself whether you’d take a 5:13 in your first 70.03.
For me It would be a big hell yeah. Add in the perspective that -even three years later-he is still coming back from his crash and it gets better.
So crazy big props to Saul.
Thanks for the update. Congratulations to Saul!!! Hopefully he’ll post a race report.

Jason,
Tell Saul I said congrats. We need to teach that boy to swim! Bring him out to San Diego. I’ll give him a swim lesson in exchange for a bike fit from you…sounds fair to me…

That is a fantastic finish. Congratulations, Saul!
SWEET! i don’t have an exact figure but i’d guess that the vast majority of triathletes don’t get anywhere near a 5:12 for their first 1/2 IM!
What makes it that much more impressive is this is what Saul’s feet looked like after the race. He ran pretty much the entire run split like this! He rekons he could/would have been 15-20min faster without the blisters!

Sounds like a deal ![]()
how did the Di2 work?!
That’s pretty awesome for a first half! Hope the whole crew had a great time out there.

THIS IS HTFU!
That $hit is amazing. Being able to shift under load, while climbing is unreal. That being said…it didn’t help me not suck. Nothing like going an hour off of your PR! I didn’t think happy hour the night before the race would hurt so much! Here’s a sneak peak. Look for a full review of Di2’s tri debut in an upcoming issue and on our site later this week…

Dear GOD. Ye-ouch!!!
Did he wear socks? Tell Saul we’ve got 2 words for him: Body Glide.
Only time I ever got a blister in a tri was at Kona, and it was one the size of a dime.
Nothing like that, damn, his feet look like hamburger.
Congrats to Saul on completing his first HIM. The sky is the limit for him.
Saul is my hero.
Just read his website. Very inspiring.
What happened to his feet? Did they get wet or does he have a chronic problem with blisters?
Good job Saul,
but coming back from brain injury is no excuse for not figuring out your shoe/sock situation ![]()
just messing with you, good luck on the next one!
Yea…what everyone else said. That is friggin’ disgusting. I think Saul’s a bad-ass for running like that, but you need to have one of your guys like Richie, Rhodsey or Bjorn talk to him about how to prevent that in the future. That’s gotta put him out of commission for running for a bit.
