This link is to an interesting study about Saudi articles distributed to mosques in America. I don’t know the source well, so I’m not vouching for them, but it’s an interesting read.
This is a weird little analysis- I mean, it is oddly written. Part of it is very well attributed and then it spins off into non-specific language seemingly at random, or perhaps at convenient intervals. It’s odd.
Hmmm.
Well, on a lighter note, A beautiful mosque just opened here in Dearborn. It is enormous and beautifully built. At night the lighting is spectacular- you can see the glow from 2-3 miles away. It is breathtaking. Easily on par with some of the mosques I’ve seen in the Middle East. Huge five story minarets.
I toured this place last week- it is just about 2 miles from our store. It really is beautiful. It was built at tremendous expense in a neighborhood that was substantially distressed. This was a an enormous boon to the local area and for the local Muslim population, which is very large here in Dearborn.
On a more positive note–the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), whose immediate denouncement of 9/11 was a little underwhelming, is now circulating a petition called “Not in the Name of Islam.” The petition denounces the acts of “a few” terrorists as not reflecting the true spirit of Islam and the teachings of Mohammed. Let’s hope that catches on.
Also–in comparison, there was (and maybe still is) a large amount of US (private) monetary and moral support for a group called the “Irish Northern Aid Society” which was nothing but a front for collection of funds for the IRA. While we complain about Saudi support for terrorism, I am not convinced that the Saudi government has a lot to do with it as some people infer–I believe most or all of it is from private Saudis with Wahabbist leanings (these are not your poor and downtrodden either, these are some wealthy folks.)
We Americans also support narco-terrorists when we buy illicit drugs.
