Saucony Type A2

I absolutely love the ride of the Type A2 racing flat. I am looking for a shoe be it saucony or other, that has the same/similar ride as the A2. Anybody that has ran in A2’s have any input?

Mid/forefoot striker. neutral gait. no medial post needed.

Previously I had ran in Asics Gel Nimbus’s
I currently have a pair of Newtons
and also occasionally run in Nike Free’s.

wait, so why arent you buying A2’s??

i have a pair and i love them, so comfortable sockless, they are lighter than air and are well cushioned considering…

I have A2’s

I want a shoe capable of longer training runs that rides similar to the A2.

I would imagine if I were to train in my A2’s all the time, they would die off pretty soon.

The Asics are dead.
I may be returning the Newtons
and I Like the Free’s but I’m not too keen on going long distance in a pair. ( and I wear free’s as my everyday shoe)

ooohhhh, um well I train is asics ds trainer 12’s…and find that its a fine transition for my feet to run in the a2’s aswell.

i run in the a2’s every couple weeks just to keep my feet used to them and have a nice comfortable fit for the race…

So, now that this is more clear …

You are looking for a shoe that you think will last longer yet feels the same? Not really gonna’ happen.

To be “close” would be Saucony’s Tangent 3 or Fastwitch 3 (both both have minimal medial rearfoot posts). NB 903 has a great low ride and feel, light, but also a minimal rearfoot post (I really like this shoe). Brooks Ghost is pretty nice. You might like the Asics Gel Landreth (probably not though even though it does not have any medial posting). Mizuno Wave precision is another option (neutral, no post, but NOT the same ride as the A2).

The above shoes are mostly lightweight trainers (with or without rearfoot post) since they most closely mimick the A2’s ride. Other racing flats (Brooks T4, Nike elites, Avia lites, etc.) will feel similar, but won’t last any longer and then you might as well just get another A2.

Final thought: if you can find some old Saucony type-As, they are pretty minimal and very long lasting (except the uppers) for some strange reason.

The Doc just said what I was going to suggest - I race in the A2 and do speed work in them, but my other runs all happen in the Fastwitch and the Tangent. The Tangent is perfect for long runs for me, and indeed has a similar ride, in my opinion. The Fastwitch offers up some stability, which can mess with my IT bands if I use them more than a couple of runs/week.

I train in the sinister and race in the A2 (short stuff only).

Love them both.

Thanks, I may be looking into the tangents. They are a substantial enough shoe to handle daily training right?

Definitely. Currently my long run shoe as well. Very durable for its weight.

Love my Tangents. Use them for almost everything. Shorter races Type A2.

I like the A2 bc of the heel and the nike Marathoner has a harder sole with the same shoe feel and heel.
