Carlos Sastre really has a small head, that is why the helmet seems very large.

can someone explain to me why catlike and other helmet makers don’t make all their helmets legal in the usa?
They’re plenty legal in the US. You just can’t race 'em, cuz they aren’t CPSC certified, so they can’t be sold in a bike shop here.

Not quite… UCI helmets like the Catlike and UVEX are legal to race in bike races with just not triathlons. The reason they don’t want to certify them for CPSC is it cost a lot of money, and at this point the only people that can wear them are triathletes so theres not much point.

And it looks like USA Cycling is changing their rules at the end of this year -
“Beginning January 1, 2010, only the DOT and CPSC helmet standards will be recognized.”.
I think the version that Sastre’s got in the picture above is missing the two vents that you normally get with the Catlike helmets, but not sure. He was certainly keeping his head very still during the TT stage

Just found this on his homepage, if he didn’t photoshop it himself… seems like catlike is doing some testing as well.
