I did them a few days ago. Just wondering how a workout like
That is beneficial for long and/or short distance triathlon.
Specific benefits? Or just a good workout?

good cardio if you go when there aren’t a sh!tload of people there, which is basically never.
I used to run them with a weighted vest…controlled on the way down, then run up. Well, the wood set I could run up, the concrete has more steps and the turns can get tight with other folks coming down. Like most things in life, the issue is other people. : )
I was wondering if it will help with being a better hill climber both on the bike and run? Also, would this be a good leg strength builder like squats and lunges?
drive 10min to Sullivan Fire rd…6 miles up hill on a beautiful trails with amazing views. that will build lung and leg strength
I wish. I was just traveling through. I have a set a stairs that is similar where I live. So I was wondering if its worth recreating the workout local?
Danny, the Santa Monica Stairs are good for meeting sexual partners who share your interest in sweating. As a married man who lives near them I have lots of friends: male, female, gay, straight who have made epic hook-ups there. The wood stairs seem to be hipper now but 10 years ago the concrete stairs were THE spot!!!
Stair training in general on the other hand could have a place in your strength routine but remember one of the key principals of training: specificity! If you want to be a better climber on the bike then include either a bike hill repeat or a tension ride where you start at 5min going up over geared at ~60rpm and keep your heart rate relatively low (this not a puke at the top set) so that you can focus on getting the proper muscles to fire at every moment of the 360 degree, perfect circle. You can repeat those 5min climbs for 5 or 6 or 7 w/ ~90sec spin recovery and do well. Over time, expand the duration progressively out to 8, 10 even 12min. If you want to add strength to your run a more specific workout than stairs would be running hills.
All that said, it is mid December and for many of us this is a time of year to train weird and make things new/interesting/fun and stairs might be just the thing especially if you’re in Santa Monica and you have the side gig in quality control for Lululemon to see if the new fabric is woven tight enough ![]()
thanks. sounds like fun thing to do off/pre-season but not to do during the specific training of race season.
