Santa Barbara Long Course Triathlon - Roll Call

Anyone doing it? Anyone done it in the past?
How is the course?

Anyone have a computrainer course that they can send me?

Thanks

Wanted to, but it sold out before I could register! Bummer!

Possiby my favorite race as it is the last race of the summer season and when you’re done you can go have margaritas at any of the numerous watering holes down by East Beach or up on State street. The course is challenging and Joe C. (race director) hasn’t done what every other race director has done, let more people sign up even though the logistics of the course make it difficult…he caps the long course at 600. I signed up in January to secure my spot as I’ve only missed twice since I first did it in '92.

You can go to http://www.adventours-inc.com/nn/sportingevents.htm if you want details or if you want to see the course profile. Beware El Toro Canyon Road as there is a pretty sharp left turn that is at the bottom of a quick descent. Volunteers are there to tell racers to slow down but it seems like every year the ambulance is carting someone off of that corner because they failed to keep their line and went down or off the road into the ditch. The run is 3 miles flat, 4 miles rollers, 3 miles flat as it begins and ends running along the beach on the bike path thru the marina. You hit the rollers as you pass SBJC and into the residential area where a very modest home will set you back 7 figures.

It’s a great race and the competition is steep as LA Tri Club makes it a featured event on their schedule. If you have specific questions, shoot me a PM.

Not this year, but I’ve raced it five times. This year I will be bodymarking. The course is an unique distance (1m S 35m B 10m R) and challenging. The bike is mainly rolling hills through Summerland, Montecito (i.e. think Oprah & Ty Warner), and Carpinteria on an open course. Even though the race director Joe Coito will stress this in the pre-race meeting, be extremely cautious descending Toro Canyon. Every year there is an ambulance at the bottom of the hill and every year they pick a couple of participants up who flew off the road into the dry stream that runs parallel. There is also a pretty good size hill (i.e. "Goubenador - sic?) just prior to the bike 1/2 way point. The run is rolling as well and the sun usually breaks through the “June/July/August gloom” by the time the run starts. All in all it is a great unique race that is well ran.
