Hi, I’m in the process of doing some research on San Marco Rolls saddles, and therefore I am trying to compile a list of all the versions in which the Rolls has been produced. I have a few below, but have I missed any?
Rolls Black leather with CrMo rails
Rolls Black leather (grainy version) with CrMo rails
Rolls White leather with Titanium rails
Rolls Black leather with Titanium rails
Rolls Black (not sure of material: nylon?) with CrMo rails
Rolls White (not sure of material: nylon?) with CrMo rails
Rolls Yellow (not sure of material: nylon?) with CrMo rails
Rolls Black Perforated leather (small holes), not sure of rail material, Titanium or CrMo or both?
Rolls White Perforated leather (small holes), not sure of rail material, Titanium or CrMo or both?
Also, which pro(s) use the Rolls? Photo links would be appreciated!
I’ve got a black leather one with ti rails on an old Merckx and a white perforated one that I got from Nashbar for $10 on an old Japanese lugged bike. When I got the one from Nashbar, it came with a great old catalogue. I wish I would have saved it for you. Please post your findings.
I used to have a black perforated leather with copper colored rails and rivets. Sold it on an old Cannondale MTB many years ago. One of the most comfy road saddles I’ve ever had though.
DavidK: Well, I´m into vintage bike parts, especially ones that are still produced in newer series (e.g. campagnolo series, classic saddles etc.), and now as part of a web project at school I decided to focus on a classic - The Rolls.
Having looked around a bit i see that it comes in various editions, and thats basically why I’ve posted. So if anyone has any very special editions or ones not listed it would be great to know about.
Also, I understand that many pros still use this saddle? Can’t find photo evidence, though, apart from Andrea Tafi in his Mapei days, as well as Tom Steels…
