San fransico and surrounding areas, help please

for those that live/lived/visit there.

what is the training scene like in the winter months, say oct through feb/march?
weather?
cost of living (ie can you find something cheap if you search around?

October through December it’s lovely, mostly dry, but a little chilly. January/February are typically the rainy months with some snow at the very highest elevations.

Cost of living: There are deals to be found, and with the collapse in the housing market around here they may become more common.

Trick to weather- the greater san jose area (further south) is MUCh warmer in winter than the san francisco area- even though its only 30 mins apart, its a HUGE gap in temperature

Someone just did extensive research on NorCal (with lots of lots of posts about pretty much all the surrounding areas).

Training? January we did a race in short-sleeves and shorts. Earlier this week I thought we were going to build an ark and froze to death. Today it’s 66F in downtown SF. Tomorrow, who knows. The cross season pretty much had warm and dry weather.

i am searching around as we speak, but any thoughts on costs of living in the san fran or san jose areas (for what its worth this would be renting for a few months in one form or another).

Actually the gap is larger in the summer. It can actually be warmer in SF in the winter than the outlying areas in the winter.
