San Diego Cyclist Identified, he's one of us

I thought this deserved it’s own thread.

Patrick was a member of the SD Tri Club and also raced IMAZ this year.

So sad and lots of condolences to his family and friends.

that is awful news. i feel so badly for the friends and family…what a loss. very very sad.

very sad

regrets tot he family
.

Truly terrible. Ironic that a man survives his tour in Iraq but succumbs to an accident on the roads near where he lives. Aweful.

I do feel terrible for his family. This is terrible news.

These threads are so difficult to read and respond to. Our sport is so awefully dangerous in the best of times.

Please guys, be careful. Remember this. Use care and caution. Be careful…

Words can’t convey the sympathies for family and friends, and of course for the fallen. Wow.

Yeah, it can’t be said enough…be careful out there. Ride as though your life depends on it, because it does.

Can we do anything for the family via your club?

I’m actually not a member of the club, but if I hear of anything I will definitely pass it on to the forum.

That’s rough, his wife just deployed in July.

13th MEU - Tarawa ESG

It hurts more knowing he’s in the military.

Maybe we can do something for her?

Damn, a fellow boat schooler too. This sucks. I hope they find the prick that hit him and turn him over to his Marines for a little payback.

Didn’t Gary T say he was on the board of this club?

I don’t think Gary was referring to the Tri Club.

Keep us posted if any funds for the wife and family start up.

Wow. I can’t even begin to imagine how she’s coping right now. The separation alone is devastating.

Tom…

“These threads are so difficult to read and respond to. Our sport is so awefully dangerous in the best of times.”

Yes, it’s always devastating to hear about someone killed or injured riding, especially someone you know, bu get real. Cycling is more dangerous than running or swimming, but on the overall list of dangerous sports and pastimes triathlon, or even cycling, is low on the danger list.

I do agree that we need to be careful, because just being more active is dangerous. You’re out there more, where stuff happens.

I rememjber a study done many years ago that determined that marathon runners usually died YOUNER than their sedentary counterparts. One of my friends was eager to share that with me because I was a runner (and a proseletyzer to boot) and he was anxious to tell me that his lslothful lifestyle was “better” than mine. Turns out the reason marathoners died younger (on average) is because so many of us do dangerous shit like rock climbing, hang gliding, gator wrasslin’ and like that there.

Those of us who don’t die a violent death live long enough to bury most of our friends and family. Sometimes I think it’s better to go out in a ball of fire and twisted metal…

I was a Marine stationed at the Naval Academy when he graduated from there. I taught, with some of the other Marines stationed at the academy, a leadership course for those midshipmen who were selected to be Marines. While he was not in my class, I knew him. This one hit pretty close to home for me.

not the tri club, but on the board of Cyclo-Vets
.

I be happy to host some type of effort to do something nice for his wife Anne on my site (if we even need something outside of ST to do so). Most Marine triathletes stop by and visit my site on a regular basis. There’s a short report and a few pictures posted over there already.

Please let me know if I can help.

Mitch

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
