Put a new saddle on my rig and find that my HR is running high across all my CT workouts at about the same power (or slightly higher) as before…comfort of the saddle is spot on but (besides the patented “your seats too high”…although I suspect it may be) I’m wondering if lowering my saddle might open up my breathing more?
You discovered a phenomenon we’ve seen here also. Firstly, quadruple check that the saddle girth of your new saddle has been compensated for during its installation. In other words, if the girth is higher on the new saddle you may have just inadvertently raised your saddle and that may account for some of the difference.
Tom,
Thanks for that I hadn’t considered the idea that a wider saddle actually becomes a taller saddle…I will begin over the weekend with a series of tests to lower the saddle…any suggestion on what metrics would indicate that I have gone too low?
To account for different saddles (with differing widths and girths) on my various bikes I measure seat height using a cloth tape measure. I measure from where I actually sit on the saddle down to the bottom bracket. David K
