Trying to find a saddle for my wife. She has a road bike with clip on aerobars and has no problem riding when on the handle bars but is not comfortable for more than a few minutes when on the aerobars. She gave my adamo road saddle an honest try and found it less comfortable than the stock saddle that came with the bike.
I’m curious if there are other women who dislike the adamo saddles? And if you do, what saddles do you use for triathlons?
My wife likes her Adamo saddle. She has the ISM Prologue that came with her P3. The one thing I’ll mention though is she didn’t like it without using the zip tie mod to pull the two prongs together a bit, (which seems to be a pretty common “mod”), so perhaps that kind of tuning might make that saddle a little more comfortable for your wife. It basically took it from being uncomfortable to good for my wife.
The other thing might just be getting a little more used to being in an aero position but saddles are a pretty personal thing so who knows for sure.
I have an Adamo prologue which I find really comfy in the aero position (once the angle was tweaked just right). My problem is it isn’t quite so comfy for me sitting up (as in on my roadie with clip ons I use for hillier events), as it seems to impinge the top of my hamstrings. The best I have found so far that is good in both positions is the Selle SMP Glide. Something about the dip in the middle makes it easier to find a good comfy position either down or up on the hoods.
Bunch of dudes trying to find a bike saddle for the wives. Where’s the irony in that?
Amy has used the following, with her comments:
ISM models: too wide, worked ok in aero, but that was it.
Cobb Cycling V-Flow: Worked really well on a road bike, but where the seams came together on the front/nose of the saddle was not good for aero.
Cobb Cycling Max: Probably the ‘best’ dual-use saddle. The padding was more substantial than the Flow. It is also a nosed saddle which makes it ‘generally’ a bit better on a road bike, but because the padding was ‘higher’ it worked well for tri positions as well.
Cobb Cycling JOF/55: She is just trying this one now, aero/tri only.
If you go through the Cobb site, please use ‘our’ link and store. They have a good return policy.
If you call Cobb cycling, they are very helpful at helping you select the correct saddle - and they will let you try the saddle for 6 weeks, money back guarantee if you are not happy. How can you go wrong?
After 15 saddles I found the Cobb Flow. On my tri bike = heaven. After a season training on that for IM I put one on my road bike and it’s awesome there too. Now I have one on my touring bike!
That all being said - find a bike shop that will let her try out saddles because it’s a very personal thing!
