Been using an arione tri for the last few years but following a retul fitting and having my seat raised I find I’m getting tight glutes/hip flexor/itb on one side.
It got quite stiff during IM Lanza on saturday and it was only then I realised that I ride with the nose of the saddle slightly to one side.
It’s fine when I sit back (i.e. I’m central) but when I’m “honking” I tend to do it out of habit.
Only when I concentrated on sitting to the other side did it relieve the tightness.
I’m putting this down to the narrow front profile of the saddle and guess that something wider would be more suitable.
Any recommendations?
I’ve seen the Spesh Alias mentioned and the Fizik Ares also looks like it might be suitable.
Something wider (but not too wide) would be the Adamo Podium. It is narrower in the nose than the mainstream Race model. I was able to try the Fizik Tri2, Cobb Vflow (don’t remember which), and the Podium, during a fitting earlier this year, and chose the Podium. If you need more cushion, the Breakaway is the same shape with some added gel, but my shop did not have this one. Altogether I love my Podium and it’s worth a shot.
I’m trading my Tri2 (along with the Plasma it’s on) in on a Tri Tip (and Transition!) that I’ll pick up today. I’ll let you know how it feels in about 2 weeks (travelling). If I don’t like it, I’m going to try a Cobb.
I also ride the Tri 2 and have same symptoms you have. I ride on the saddle so that nose is on left side of taint, and my symptons are on the right leg, hip. etc. Same as you?
I picked up the Transition with the TriTip last night and put a little over 25 miles on it. The saddle is the 50mm version. Really like it. Best tri saddle I’ve ever had. Probably would have been fine on the 40mm version. Others owned are: the Arione Tri 2, Profile, Bontrager, and Performance.
The bikes very nice, too. But as usul with a new bike, I stopped about 20 times to move the saddle and adjust the seatpost. Perhaps I’ll have it dialed in by Thursday. Luckily, I have more than 3 week until my next TT.
