So im in a predicament, im waiting on an s5 rival to come to my lbs, they tell me mid feb but they have a frame that i could build up. Rival is not my number 1 choice and i would make some upgrades, cranks cassette, cables if i were to get it.
If i go with the build up i would go with a higher end gruppo, most likely SRAM Red or Ultegra DI-2, they cost right about the same. So tell me slowtwitchers. What do i do? do i wait and get a bike that is a great value that i would make upgrades to, or do i get the frame and build it up with a badass gruppo. decisions, decisions…
Feelings on Sram red vs Ultegra Di-2?
As a side note i really do enjoy the mechanical aspect of riding a bike and making the shifts. For me it’s similar to driving stickshift vs automatic
It is basically Feb. 1 now…you can’t hang a couple of weeks for the new bike as ordered? And I’m guessing that the LBS will take at least a week to build the frame anyway (ordering parts, other repairs, etc). So you are maybe looking at getting the bike a week earlier? Is that worth laying out the extra cash (although you’ll be geting a group you may want more than RIval, which I get).
Thought about it. Is it really worth it? Might as well ask for a discount on te old red than wait for the new one. Is it that big of a difference? So the cassette won’t be as loud. What else?
get the Rival bike and ride it. you might be surprised. i was. not sexy, but cheap and it works great for my road bike. then wait for new SRAM Red or something else to come up on a deal. if you ride your TT bike mostly, then invest in that…not your roadie. unless you have unlimited funds…but it doesn’t sound like it.
