S-Bend fitter help

In mid-process of putting Hed (integrated) bars on my bike. My DA shift lever don’t exactly fit in the ends and I’m a bit reluctant to tap them in before I cut. (Will be cutting 2cm off the ends). My question is twofold…

  1. Any of you guys need to dremel these a bit to fit the shifter or did a lil hammer-tap help?

  2. I’d actually like to cut 3cm, but it appears the shifter clamp will be darn near close to the bend (ie. run out of room). Have anybody chopped off or customized their shifters so it doesn’t need to be inserted so darn far?

thanks for your input…

from what I understand it is a normal thing to “drill out” an aero bar for the insertion of brakes/shifters. Common sense may guide you on how much to cut the bar. Cut the other end?

How did you cut them? If you used a tubing cutter this tends to swedge the end in,if you used a hacksaw you might just need to deburr the inside of the tube

When was fitted with my hed aerobar with s-bends on my bike the mechanic used a dremel to clean out the inside of the bar to slide the shifters in. He said that there seemed to be a seam on the inside of the bar. I also did have both ends cut down to fit correctly for my reach, but one does have to be careful not to cut too much as you may get close to the bend and then they won’t fit. (BTW I am referring to the shallow carbon s-bends.)

Sorry Smitty, no help - but you may be able to help me with my query:

I need to know how to take the shifter clamp out of my bars, and I have no experience whatsoever with doing something like this.

Cheers

Bingo!

Just need a lil dremel. I used a sanding piece and worked like a charm. Kinda fun watching the carbon dust fly out.

Fun, maybe…but I hope you had some sort of mask on…Your lungs don’t like carbon dust…

My DA bar ends fit with no problems…I would be very careful with the carbon…I did use a copper tubing cuter to do the cuts…works perfectly…just take your time.

LOL…neither does your nose. Coupled with my cold…I’m hacking up green and black. Sorry for the visual…
