I mentioned this in my other thread but not sure if anyone will see…hence the new thread.
My new TT bike has the s-bend extentions instead of the more traditional “ski bend” ones that were on my other bike. Has anyone had difficulty switching to the s-bends? My wrists are pretty sure that I’m petitioning them for removal…dang are they sore. I made some adjustments late in my ride last night that might have helped (dropped the pad height a bit) but by that time they were already so sore that I couldn’t evaluate the change adequetly. Any thoughts?
I have S-Bends on my Vuka and think they are awesome. If you get a bend where your hands are below your elbows by a good bit, you’ll run into problems due to your wrist angle. If you can get your elbows even with or below your hands, you’ll be really good.
That article is very interesting indeed. The last changes I made were to lower my pads so that I think it will improve my wrist angle a bit and may help…we’ll see. Most of the TT’s that I will be doing are in the 10-20k area and I can deal with a bit of discomfort for that amount of time, but if I want to train longer on the TT bike or compete in some 40k TT’s I’ve got to have a better comfort level or I’ll end up coming out of the aero position and wasting the effort.
Has anyone rotated the bars inward to improve the angle of the wrist?
I played with that on my bar and it’s OK to a degree. What it inhibits is shifting and “guiding” the bike by the extensions… The one thing you don’t wnat to do is experience discomfort and “live with it” as you race. You’ll be fine, I am sure, but over time issues could arise. Just a thought.
When i first put my T2 cobras on I hated them. My forearms would get tight and tired after only a few minutes. Each time i road they’d hurt less and less. Now they feel as comfortable as can be.
I had the same issues when I was using the Vision R-Bend clip ons so I switched to Easton Aero Force bars (ski bend). Recently I switched to the HED bar with S bends. I was able to twist the bars inward a bit so my wrists are straight and they are the most comfortable bars I have had (these are my 5th set).
Well the pain in my wrists and to a lesser degree in my forearms last night was intense. Hopefully the last adjustments I made will be beneficial and I have a couple of more ideas to try as well. If I can just get it to a manageable level I can see if I adapt over a bit of time, but right now it is leaving me so sore that I can feel it as I’m typing this post! LOL
I tried them and didn’t like them. I might have been able to suffer through an Oly dis tri with them, but nothing longer. Even that would have been a suffer! And for what benefit? If they are more aero I’m sure I more than lost that by all the extra squirming around and stretching I had to do. I have your ski bends now and love them. Can sit comfortably for hours.
Well here is an update. I’ve spent about 3 hours on the TT bike in the last 2 days fiddling with the setup. I finally moved the extensions out about 1/4" and turned the extentions in about 30 degrees. My right arm is very comfortable and the left is much improved. I’m taking the bike out tomorrow to pre-run the TT I will do a week from Sunday…hope the comfort continues to improve as I’m pretty satisfied with the handling at this point.
