Is he really that nice and likable? I get uncomfortable with people like him. Nice people make my cold black heart try to beat and it hurts.

He’s like the Tim Tebow of running but a little more quiet. Powered by God. He’s one of the fastest we have but I’m not a huge fan.
Plus you have this quote after Chicago this year “There’s not too many Americans out there running 2:08 so I’ll take it.” (link). Doesn’t sit well with lots of people
Those are the Phil Herschs of the world. The sort of people who say things like, “How come ***we ***can’t compete with the Kenyans”. As if they had anything to do with it.
Good message for this time of year: very motivational. Makes me want to go out and run now!

…it’s the damn truth! I like him.

You obviously need to look up the definition of lots.

Sits well with me and lots of people I know.
Next destination: Nationwide mediocrity

Next destination: Nationwide mediocrity
Funny story…African guy from a rural area wins a marathon, walks into a bar and says This is great, I’ll finally be able to buy my family a car. It will be the 1st one we’ve ever owned!
American d-bag says to him How pathetic, every freaking person around here has a car! Congratulations on achieving nationwide mediocrity.
Reminds me of that quote that goes something like:
You should never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.
You should never try to tell Americans they are not the best at everything…
Bobby
Had the chance to spend some time with Ryan and his wife this last year, good people. Yes, he is that nice and likable. Very passionate about their non-profit work as well…cool couple.
That was great. Generally good advice and it was terrific to hear Hall speak for 5min without telling us about his belief in an invisible supernatural deity.
I don’t get how these two things make a good analogy.

They don’t…it was a horrible analogy.
I wonder what his easy jog pace is?
I like that Justin Bieber cuts his hair.
Maybe I don’t understand what you’re saying. In what way does Ryan Hall or what he said have anything to do with mediocrity?
He’s frequently quoted as saying he’s going to run his race regardless of what of going on with the pack so in effect he’s not racing for the win but he’s racing the clock. That’s fine for some AG runner going for a PR at a local 5k but not for a world class marathoners with the potential to win a World Major. You can’t expect to be the best when you let the pack walk away from you because picking up your pace at that point in the races isn’t on your plan
I would not interpret his strategy that way. In the video he admits he has trouble with the surges that other racers throw down and he’s working on it. If running a more even pace is his best chance of winning he would know that better than us.
You bring up a good point, but what’s to say he goes with the surges and blows up, we’d still call him a failure and “sucks” because he cant win it. So it’s pretty easy to arm chair on ST about how he runs it.
