Daltry, Entwhistle, Townsend, and Moon. Moon did far more with far less than Neil, although I do like him too. He just isn’t better than Moon.
Entwhistle is better than Lee, and Townsend is certainly better than AL. Daltry is just one of the 5 best front men ever.
I regret my Crimson/Rush post. It’s stupid and juvinile to compare musicians of that level and say one’s “better” than the other. It’s not a sport - it’s art and subjective. Listen, when you get to the Peart, Page, Entwistle, Beck, Fripp, Moon, Belew, Eddie VH, Bruford, Holdsworth, Emerson, Keneally, Clapton, Bonham, Geddy, Zappa, etc… level - they’re all ridiculously good and one could make a valid “argument” for any of them.
My poor dad. I remember one summer, I was about 14, and we went on a family vaca to Cape Cod from D.C. (my parents are from Boston - you can take the Yankee out of New England for so long…). Anyway, in the car were: my brother and his buddy, and myself and my buddy. We argued for 12 hours about who was a “better” drummer Neil Peart or Charlie Watts. (obviously, on a technical level there’s no comparison - but no one swings like Charlie - you can’t teach that.) My buddy and I lobbied for Peart. I don’t know how my dad did it without throwing all of us out of the car on the NJ turnpike.
Pert is damn good, no one is quicker on a drum set. But when it’s all said and done Tool’s Danny Carey is the best in the biz.
I am not sure anyone named “FooFighterFan” has a place in discussions about great musicians…

You are right on that. Well, except for Zappa, he was just freaking weird.
Actually, I have heard that the Zappa Plays Zappa tour is a great show, and that Dweezil and his band are incredible.
Point of clarification, are you putting Hendrix in the “etc” category??

Again, it’s what you like - when it gets to that level. Can’t dissagree - Carey is fricken sick. Crazy odd time signatures at once. (ala Bruford - “how is his right hand going in 5/4, his feet in 3/4 and his snare is on the 4/4? WTF?”) with the power and force of Peart. And he’s flawless. He reminds me of Bozio on steroids. However, I prefer Peart because he’s just a bit more melodic an expressive to me. While Carey is a technical marvel - Peart’s style hit’s me on a more emotional level.

Agreed - it really is splitting hairs…and it comes down to personal preference…as this was morphing into best drummers, I couldn’t stand his name not being mentioned. Tool is not the name band that some others are in (nor do they want to be), but if you truly want to watch a unbelievable drummer find some of his solos on youtube and be mezmorized.
what about Phil Collins? 
Actually, (don’t kill me) he’s not a bad drummer. Listen to old Genesis and he’s solid. Especially the live stuff (granted a lot of it is Chester Thompson on “Three Sides Live” or Bruford on “Seconds Out”, but still). However, I will never forgive him for absolutely blowing the intro fill on Stairway when he sat in during Live Aid in '85. How many drummers have wet dreams about that opportunity and he totally blew it. Bonham must have rolled in his grave. (However, the rest of the band sucked as well so at least it was consistant)
I didn’t mean for this to digress into a “who is the best drummer ever” discussion…just wanted to convey my enthusiasm at the musicianship on display at the Rush concert I attended. I’ve seen Tool play before - also very impressive. Rush was the tightest unit I’ve ever seen. A few other great drummers I’ve taken in - Carter Beauford from DMB, Joey Waronker (sp?) from Walt Mink (and he’s played for Beck and REM) and Jeep (don’t know last name) from The Samples. Damn, whatever happened to them. The Samples were a great band and Jeep could play.

I think I remember MOST of the concert Had great seats - remember Pert being lowered into his HUGE 360 degree drumset. Geddy’s long hair/big nose. Don’t remember Alex or much else …
Do remember the smoking hot tall blond from Finland standing on a chair (we were on the field up front), falling over backwards, causing an impressive wave/domino effect for 100 yards though!
Saw them last night for the 16th time - but first time in 15 years - and they were unbelievable.
My only question is, how can they not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

But seriously, the R&RHoF is a complete and utter joke. It’s all about who was popular and more socially significant. I mean, I think Patty Smith is cool and all - but really. And the Bee Gee’s!!! Who’s next? The NY Dolls? No cred in my book. It’s like Rolling Stone magazine but… in museum form. Rush should have been in years ago. Ask any rock musician who they listened to while learning their chops and I’d bet 90% would mention Rush.
I went to the show last Thurs. in Milwaukee. Still a great show,they played alot of music off their new album,but they still sounded great. Played close to 4hrs of music, would of like to have heard more “hits”, but I would still go to hear them again.
cool - I love Rush. I inherited my father’s taste for music. Would LOVE to see them in concert, that must have been awesome.
Awesome band. First heard them at a friends house and his older brother was cranking the A Farewell To Kings alblum then I was hooked. First concert ever was Rush Moving Pictures - whoa thats a long time ago and good to see em still rockin’
I saw Rush in 1976 in Montreal with Aerosmith,best rocking show ever.I’m glad they are still jamming.
