Bahaha, I need to get my eyes checked again. I read that your reply was to runless. My apologies.
Rupp ran pretty poorly at Worlds. His closing speed at Nationals was very good. 1:52 last 800 in the 10K if I remember right.
I did the same thing when I first looked.
Yeah and that was a great improvement for him, but that 1:52 was off a jog in world class terms. As shown today and at worlds he has to have a better kick off a fast pace and against top competition. I think he has a shot, he is still young and a fearless racer.
Styrrell
ridiculous isn’t it.

26:13 is a monument to how good bekele is. the fact that he can pull out a 26:43 a few weeks after dropping out of Daegu… ridiculous. He trains for a few weeks and then kills people. His coach said he has only trained about 7 months TOTAL since the world champs 5k+10k double in 2009. He dominates cross country AND the track, where many runners haven’t done both before. (Haile didn’t).
Check out this workout he did before the 2007 world champs: 16x (400 in 52-54, rest, 200 in 24-25) w/ 90sec-2min rest b/w everything

If you’re going to do your homework…or call someone else out…you should go to the right source:
huh? i didn’t “call” anybody out.
It wasn’t a reply directly to you…though I did neglect to remove your name from the subject.
gotcha
.
Gosh…only 30 seconds off the world record…I guess that’s progress. Since he is an American I guess we should start talking about how remarkable and historic his performance was like we did Hall when he finished behind some of those African dudes in Boston.
Of course, this is not really progress…when Craig Virgin set the American record in the 80s he was the second fastest 10k in HISTORY
Sorry to be snarky…but he did come in THIRD in this race, right?
.
I’m pretty sure I read in RW or RT that he has some background/ interest/ something in triathlon. Wouldn’t that speed be nice for ITU…
You mean like the big feature articles Goucher drew for finishing 3rd at Boston a few years ago? (of course her cute pooper didn’t hurt any)
He’s getting close to my 5 km times. ![]()

I take NOTHING away from Virgin, who was amazing and a ferocious competitor and deserves all the acclaim he gets. But I think most would agree that the distance-running world is more competitive today. The Africans were certainly on the scene in Virgin’s time – they began to emerge in the '60s – but not in the staggering volume we see today (especially from Kenya). Look at that 10,000 in Brussels: 9 of the 11 finishers were from Kenya. Over the past 30 years, with the liberalization of the sport, the amount of money flowing to Africa has brought out *all *the great runners, not just the top few. There are literally dozens and dozens of world-class distance guys in Kenya now. The Americans haven’t been unique in falling behind: The whole world hasn’t been able to keep up. In the last six Olympics, Africans have won all six golds available in the 10,000, and 17 of 18 total medals available at the distance. The Europeans, Scandinavians, Aussies – they all used to be competitive at the distance, but they’ve pretty much disappeared.
Rupp has shown steady improvement for several years. Now he’s shaved 22 seconds off his PB, smashed the American record by 11 seconds and shown he can stick with the greatest 10,000 meter runner ever until the last lap. Yeah, he has a ways to go; the last lap is the one that counts. Gaining the strength to be competitive in a sub-27 race against the best will be a tough haul for the guy. But he’s definitely making progress in a way no American runner has in the modern era of African total dominance.
Why all the criticism in this thread. Show’em some respect. The guy is a bad-a$$!

Well said. Rupp’s performance is nothing short of great. All the poo-pooing of Rupp by people who could maybe beat Rupp with a 13 minute headstart is starting to make this place feel like letsrun.
Faaaaasst
but Rupp is a poor name
.
And Kenny B has come close to that record how many times since? Right. I thought so.
I don’t get your attitude. Hall, Rupp setting American records that are light years ahead of where US running has been for the past decade and all you can say is they still suck compared to a few Africans.
Go back to Let’sRun, please.
I think it’s fast
it’s twice as fast as some people’s 5k
.

Because he came in THIRD. In a minor meet. And would not make the Ethopian travel squad. So if he is a bad ass, what are the guys who destroyed him at the worlds? Super bad asses? And why no love for them? So its not criticism. Its perspective.
