A spill on my commuting bike last week has left me with a type 1 fracture of my radial head in my left arm. I went to the ER and got x rayed, they said it was stable. I’m wearing a sling whenever I’m walking around or anything, but their instruction was to try and go without the sling to move the arm a little bit. It has a long ways to go, but I’m starting to notice improvements every morning. Walking just isn’t cutting it in terms of exercize though, and I think I could run (easily of course) without pain, although I’m nervous to try. Anyone have any advice?
Heal first!! What did you doctor say?
Took me a month of down time totally when I broke my collar bone. If I had started at the beginning doing nothing rather than worrying about losing my training, I probably would have healed faster.

Don’t run on your hands and you’ll prob be ok.
Fractured a bunch of things a few weeks ago on a bike spill and the dr said 3-4 weeks before running as the jarring would slow the healing down on all the fractures in my shoulder & elbow. And missing IMC today because of it…such is life. I pulled my sling off after a week with the my fractured radial head and it didn’t seem to make a difference in it hurting or not, so you may as well at least do that.
I’m guessing but I wonder if it would be similar to running with stress fractures - more time off to let it heal? I’d wait a little while. A week now may save you a month later is the impression I got from the dr & physio.

i broke my elbow -it still doesnt straighten out all the way. I just did the elliptical and aqua jogged for 4 weeks before running and it was a bore but better than nothing.
Stick with the water running and other non-impact stuff. I have a ton of scar tissue left over from a radial head fracuture that did not heal great and now I can’t straighten my arm and have loss of motion in my writst when arm is extended. Severely impacted my swim stroke and makes bike adjustments on the front end a bit tricky.
