Running Watches

What watch would you get if you were going to buy a new watch. I currently have a Wahoo Rival, which worked great for about 1.5 years. I’m not a big fan of Garmin. I’m not sure if I’ll ever do another triathlon. And I don’t plan to wear it all the time. I’m mainly a cyclist that wants to do some light running. So I don’t want to break the bank.

What would you recommend I look at?

How much data is REALLY important to you? Ask yourself that and work from there

Me? Not much, actually, so I wear an incredibly cheap watch from Target (I’m sure you can guess the brand & model, so I won’t further my own embarrassment)

I like data, even though I’m slow now. I have a HR strap, foot pod for cadence. I’m considering an mid range Garmin Forunner model, but am interested in what else is out there and what people would recommend. I’ve even considered just getting an Apple Watch and using it, but think I’d want something more.

I actually have enjoyed the Wahoo Rival, just that it is failing so soon. I have an old Garmin 910XT from 2008 ish, But it is a pain to upload and really needs to be put out to pasture. I don’t want to spend $700 on some of the high end watches. I think $500 or less would be the sweet spot. Preferably 3-400.

The advantage of Garmin is that if you are in their ecosystem (i.e. also have their bike computer), you get very consistent data without having to do crazy syncs.

I have a Wahoo Roam and Bolt Cycling computers (hence why I bought the Rival watch). So I’m concerned with the split ecosystems.

I would have gotten a Forerunner 55. Not sure what they cost in the US but they are available for the equivalent to US$150 on sale over here in the EU now. It will be more than enough for your needs, but do a good job at it.

Coros watches. To save $$, used Coros Pace will do it all and then some. Maybe $100 used. Labor Days Sales now too. Can’t beat the features add eco system for me of the Coros.

Well…I had the wrist band on my Garmin 735XT break during my warmup swim at my race a week ago so it is now at the bottom of a reservoir. So I have been looking to see what is available. I got the 735XT on a Black Friday deal right before it was discontinued for $99. I am defiantly looking for a budget watch. All I need is a swim screen, bike screen, run screen, and connection to my chest strap HRM. I was looking at the Forerunner 55 or similar.
