Has anyone seen these new shoes from Nike… they look really cool. Do you think they’d be good for training and maybe even running a triathlon in? I hate wearing shoes, I have high arches and they hurt really bad, so I think Ill try them.

I ran in some of these before the LA Marathon. If you are looking for a minimal shoe that is similar to barefoot running then try the Brooks T3s. They feel like running barefoot. The nike free’s were really squishy and unstable.

There are lots of old posts in the archives if you feel like digging through em.
The Free is a shoe that’s supposed to make your feet stronger, there is a long adaption period that your supposed to go through before you run in them. I don’t think they’re recommended for longer runs.
OK, between this post and the bike post I’m guessing you are are troll. Did you find a link to this site on letsrun? Dyestat maybe?
I tried them on when I saw them in the store, just for kicks - didn’t like them one bit. The soles are entirely too soft and “squishy”, so you can’t feel the ground at all. There is no stability because it feels like you’re running on marshmallows.
There are lots of shoes designed for people with high arches. How much of a running background do you have? If you don’t really have one, I’d suggest a fairly neutral shoe that’s more or less right down the middle in terms of “cushion vs control”. Your best bet (much like I said in the bike thread) is to source a good running shop, try on some shoes, talk to the people who work there, and go on their recommendation/feel.
Why a troll? Sounds like a newbie triathlete to me. Just basic questions…
“I hate wearing shoes, I have high arches and they hurt really bad, so I think Ill try them.”
I think this is good reason. Kinda sounds like “I have really flat feet, trackhead told me that if I run 100 miles per week bearfoot on grass I’ll be faster than Seb. What do you think.”?
Oh! No! Here it comes…Try the new Vitruvians. The low heel rise and the flexible front make them very comfy. You can just RRRRRRRROLL off the toe.
I think this is a great shoe for a person with a high arch. Most running shoes of today are the cause of injuries as told my latest research.
eabarry, having gone thru futureirongirl’s previous posts, I agree with you.
find out why your arches hurt first, if they are injured say plantar fasciatis then you’ll probably screw your feet going into something like the Free. AFTER they are healed the Free would be great to make sure they never have problems again but I’d say you need to have fairly healthy feet before going into the Free
Are these type of responses along the same lines as a boy kicking a girl in the second grade when he thinks she’s cute?
…Do you think they’d be good for training and maybe even running a triathlon in? I hate wearing shoes, I have high arches and they hurt really bad, so I think Ill try them…
A very, very bad idea. These shoes are designed to be training devices, like ankle weights, pull buoys, etc. Even the top runners, like those at the Nike Farm Team here are using them only for very specific purposes (in their case they are using them for pick-up drills right now for about 2 miles max).
I’m with Khai, sounds like a newbie. The “Peaceful Tribe” strikes again.
I have no idea what she looks like, I’m AT LEAST 5 years out of 2nd grade, and I still think she’s a troll.
The thing I find humorous about you and eabarry is that you both are willing to act like an ass to a potential newbie just for the chance to look “smart” by recognizing a troll.
That’s somewhat in the character of a “troll” isn’t it?
To me, I don’t see how any good can come out of calling the poster a troll. If it’s a newbie, you just look like a jerk. If it is indeed a troll, you just fanned the flames. But that’s just me.
Happy trolling…
I response to being a troll I’m not… A newbie kinda. I’ve done one triathlon before… when I was younger (The Ironkids bread one) and couldn’t continue even though I loved it because I was heavy into competive gymnastics and did not have the time or was healthy enough to train for two sports at one time. Now that I’m done with gymnastics, I want to do triathlons. I was hoping you guys could give me some good advice to help me train but I guess not. oh well. Its my loss not yours.
Don’t give up on the site. You’ll get some good advice.
Hi FIG
Just curious why you deleted your post about which bike to get?
You had the bad luck in asking about a shoe model that has generated considerable and heated debate here. If you don’t have much experience running and haven’t found a model of shoes that you like (I’ve been in the same brand for more than 10 years and the same model for more than six), then go to a really good running store, at a time when it isn’t crowded, and spend some time talking to them about what shoes you should try out. Any real running store will let you run on a treadmill or even outside with potential shoes on to see how you like them. It will help them if you bring your old pair of running shoes because wear patterns will tell knowledgeable people things about what shoes you should wear.
