Running in Phoenix?

I would like to get in an easy 8 - 10 mile run tomorrow morning before I leave Phoenix. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of a good place to run, something easy to navigate, maybe an out and back? Trials would be nice but not a necessity.

I am staying in the Tempe area, so something close to the university (ASU) would be best.

You could drive south on Rural Road (Scottsdale Rd) about 4 miles south of the University, 1/2 mile south of Guadalupe Rd., and you will see a canacl crossing under the road. I think there is a YMCA just south of the canal, on the right side, where you could park. Run east for an out and back on dirt canals - though you will have to cross the arterial streets. It should be 1 mile between streets that you have to cross.

Did you run the marathon today? What did you think? What was your time?

It was my first marathon, and it wasn’t pretty. Running is my weakest tri sport, so I did a 4:45.

I just did a 1/2 IM right there. There is a running path around the lake. I think it’s about 6 miles or so. It’s in site of Sun Devil stadium. Transition was at the Tempe Marina which was adjacent to the path. If I remember right, it was by Mill ave. and 202. I’m sure you could ask anyone in town and they’d know about the path. There is a park there and it seemed to be a popular spot to run, skate, etc…sorry, since I’m not from there I can’t give you better directions. Perhaps someone in the area will be more help and might actually know of a trail route.

yes, I ran the marathon this morning. I didn’t race it though, just ran it with a close friend that was doing her first marathon. We finished in about 4:39. We were on 4:15 pace until about 18 miles, then the camber in the road really started to bother my friends ITB and knee and that really slowed us quite a bit.

As for the race itself, I have mixed feelings about it. I thought it was great getting to run through Phoenix like that on closed roads. I’m not really into finisher medals, but I liked this one, more because of it being the inaugeral and all I thought the organization was pretty good at the start, except for the 30 minute delay course was great, I’d love to come back and race either the full or the half, I think it’s a fast course Mickelob low carb beer? get real, I wanted real beer with full carbs! as much as I love beer, I couldn’t even finish that swill t-shirt, a bit disappointing for a big time inaugeral event with 30,000+ entrants great weather I’d do it again and recommend it

Glad you liked it; I think it was like 10 degrees above normal - so I’d much prefer it was a bit cooler. Can’t have everything.
