Running In New Orleans (1)

I’m Heading to New Orleans this weekend staying in the French Quarters looking for a nice place to Run 75 minutes or so.

Do you have a car? If so City Park and Audobon park are really cool places to run. They are both ~ 5 miles from the quarter

It’s been a long time since my college days there, but +1 on Audobon Park. Even if you don’t have a car, you could take the street car down there.

My advice is to run down the St. Charles Trolley Line. Runners actually run on the grass covered trolley track. It’s a fantastic run and it will take you all the way to the river if you want to go that far. For a map and reference, here’s my run from my NYC marathon build in 2011:

Take it as far as you want, turn around and head back.

x2 on this. As a bonus its pretty fun to run in the French Quarter early in the morning.

Yes to Audubon, yes to City Park. Much of the streetcar tracks on St. Charles are torn up right now, undergoing repairs, so it’s not as nice as usual and you might need to run on the world’s most uneven sidewalks for some stretches.

Louisiana Running Company on Canal St. has groups doing runs of 3-5-7 miles from their shop at 6pm on Monday and Weds. Happy’s Irish Pub hosts a run at 6:15pm Weds. Both are very social and have a wide range of paces – from lollygaggers to the fastest runners in the state. Beverages afterwards at both.

Thanks for the current update. I just googled the local paper, it says that the tracks are under repair until about April.

I posted something on this a few years back, and was chastised for calling it a “trolley”! Watch out for the Nawlins’ faithful!

and to stay on topic, yes, I found Audubon a better choice than city park was for running. Some speedy Tulane runners would occasionally be seen zipping around the place, if you need some pacing, you might get lucky
