Running in miami

Don’t forget - the King Mango Strut on 12/26!! Coconut Grove’s finest parade!!

Do I hear a Women of ST Austin weekend in the works?

My wife and I will always have fond memories of Miami because we won a race there with a very nice prize purse and it was actually spending time in Coconut Grove that won it for us!

I need a house there first! But then, YES!!!

I’d second that perimeter road recommendation. If you’re determined to run somewhere around the airport, I would somehow do an out and back on Perimeter (which is also called NW 12th St I believe). There might even be some grass to run on between the road and the airport fence…? Good luck.

I’ve been living in the Grove for 4 years! I can’t imagine living anywhere else in Miami! Artists, millionaires, hari krishnas, and athletes all in the same little village… it’s awesome!

Which race was it that you won?

Sounds like I’ll need to head down to the Grove on the 26th! Seeing as it’s Boxing Day here in Canada on the 26th (stat holiday) and I’m kinda “missing” it by being in Florida, I think I should head down to the parade…and grab a frozen drink from Fat Tuesdays to quench my thirst…190 Octane here I come…yummy!

I’m mistaken. It’s 12/31 this year. Are you still going to be here? Don’t worry - all of Canada (esp. French-speaking Canada) is here starting in November. If you get lonely, the French-Canadians like to hang out at Le Bouchon du Grove on Old Main Hwy. My favorite restaurant in the Grove!

This is not a parade for the easily offended… it’s billed as “The Weirdest Parade in the Universe.” You’ll have a good view from Fat Tuesday’s. I think the whole parade route is maybe 1 mile long and usually once people’s floats/acts/etc complete the whole mile, they get back in and do another skit.

Sounds like a blast. I’m definitely not easily offended so the parade sounds like fun…anyone seen a flying squirrel before?

And I don’t think I’ll get too homesick…will be surrounded by many Canadians and Jamaicans (wife’s side) during the break so I’ll get plenty of beer and jerk.

Thanks for the info…I won’t be around on the 31st (leave on the 30th)…oh well, next time I’ll catch it. And Le Bouchon is great…that’s where I had breakfast the morning after I got married. Great food!

“weird”… wait a minute… that’s austin’s title. Keepin’ it Weird in the ATX!!!

Keep Austin Weird

How about Scotty’s Landing? Been there?

Hard as hell to find. Very casual - on the water by Dinner Key. Great place to watch boats, eat smoked fish dip, and drink a beer. It’s on the water between the Charthouse (off of Bayshore Drive) and Miami City Hall (on Pan American Drive). It’s behind a bunch of dry-dock boat storage. If you think you are in the wrong place, you are probably there. It’s mostly locals because no one else can find it. Covered outdoor seating. Bathing suits are acceptable attire. Dogs welcome.

Try South beach. Same but right next to the ocean and lot more cool places to go around without worrying about making the “wrong” turn. I lived on the venetian causeway for several years and boy do I miss that… but unless you have couple of millions laying around cant get a nice house around there so…

Anyways. I think you can run out and back on perimeter road, it should be at least 6 miles and if you go to 25th street on 72nd avenue probably about 8 or 9 and also not a lot of intersections. Going down on LeJeune will have you stopping all the time to cross.

Peace

We are just as weird as you. Should we have a weird-off to go with our souffle-baking contest?

Our preferred saying here is “Put the Nut Back in Coconut Grove.” It was a neatnik and hippie hangout in the 60’s. Open drug use in Peacock Park. Lots of artist communes. I still see a few VW hippie vans around…

Two of my favorite girls getting together on friday? I will need to see pics of that!

Never. Sounds like I might need to check it out. I have friends that live in the Grove so I’ll need to make a few inquiries while I’m down there.

Yep! Looks like I’ll be running with miami! Hopefully I can keep up:-)

Theres a lot of bad advise on this thread, DONT run on perimeter road unless you have a death wish. Your hotel is on 36th street which I might add is a freaking dump so be carefull, lots of undesireables stay there. But if your looking to run then go 2 blocks west to curtiss parkway and run the 5 mile loop, its real nice and you have a golf course on both sides with a jogging path. Very safe and highly reccomended, lots of joggers and people around. At the top of the circle there is a great outdoor restaurant called harvest moon that offers great healthy food and smoothies, the best in that area, good luck.

dude, are you trying to get the hotties killed, sheeeeesh :)))))
.

Thanks! 'll be running with miami79, I feel safe:-)

Be carefull with her, she does fall down even when running, dont you Lauren, heheheehhehehehe.
