Running in miami

I am doing my long run in miami friday morning from the comfort inn at the airport. Is it safe to just run around there? tips on where to go?

I wouldn’t run around the airport area. It’s pretty icky over there. What time are you going? How long? How fast? Do you want me to come pick you up, and we can run somewhere nice? I ran long today with AR, but I could go again Friday if you want.

Town Lake isn’t an icky place to run.

I was just going to reply with the same thing…best bet is to find a way out from the airport and go for a long run in one of the many nicer areas in and around Miami.

Last time I was there I ran on the beach in South Beach. There is groomed area for running in sand, great views, and vendors on beach if you need gatorade or water.

Should Marisol and I fly to Austin on Friday AM to run there? That dirt is nice on my hip!

What would the Austin tri scene do if both miami79 AND Marisol were in Austin at the same time? There would be a fight amongst all the single tri guys in this town.

I want to go to Austin! I’ll go too!!

Also, AR and I have several routes saved to the www.usatf.org site. Click on the map that says “America’s Running Routes” (or something like this) and search for Miami, Coral Gables, or Coconut Grove as the city. My route is the Grove route starting from Kennedy Park, which is 10 miles. If you want to go longer, I can easily make a new one for you. Just let me know how far you want to go. I’d be happy to go with you though!

you know what, I NEED to check out austin for life planning purposes. we should all go on a trip together. what do you think?

I’ll be too busy training for IMAZ and working. Marisol can have all the boys!

miami… Thanks for the info. But I need to leave from the hotel room and run from there. Is it safe? We have to be on the ship by 4pm and I have like 6 people with me. It is one of those where I am trying to still get the run in without disturbing everyone else’s plan!

No, y’all should fly up here to south Georgia, and ride with me.

If pressed, I could but together a long trail run.

yes! I’ve never been and I hear it’s awesome!

Bullsh!t. You’re going down there to get some.

Do you two ladies need a tour guide? I’ve offered my services once and I’ll be happy to do it again

God! I don’t need to fly to austin to get some. It is not THAT hard if I really want to!

I seriously have that on my list… and miami, forget the boys… we can go there to train and have a fun time!

Running through the Grove is great. I have spent many nights in the Grove (also got married there in 2001) and will hopefully head back this x-mas (leave for FLA on the 17th for 2 weeks).

Marisol,
I had a commuter place (HoJo’s) by miami airport for years and ran all over the area. Nobody ever bothered me but the tourists asking for directions. Quite often I would leave from the gym at the airport and run around perimeter road but I felt safer on the main streets avoiding the less traveled road. For long runs I would stay on lejeune road to coral gables which is a fairly quiet section of town…especially compared to lejeune road.
