Running in Dallas?

I’m traveling to Dallas this week and was hoping to run while there. I will have very little time flexibility - will likely be running at ~530am (so in the dark).

Anyone have good recommendations of where to go? I’m staying at the Crescent Court Hotel, near Cedar Springs and Pearl (I think).

Thanks in advance.

From the Crescent, you can run over to the Katy Trial, which is a nice place to run (I think the concierge has a map). Also, if you want to do some sightseeing, you can head either to downtown or uptown, both decent streets at 5-6:30 (relatively safe, might advise slightly different if you are a female).

You could also have the Crescent car drop you off at Lukes locker (www.lukeslocker.com) they have runs during the week. Or have the car take you over to White Rock Lake (a 9 mile trail circles the lake).

I think the Crescent has a decent workout facility, but if not, there is a Gold’s nearby and the downtown YMCA is also relatively close.

Weather should be perfect this week.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Or stop by MY store…;-)…RunOn!..off of Mockingbird…at 6pm Wednesday and join our social run. You can get up to 7-8 miles at a decent clip if you want. All paces are accomodated so don’t be intimidated…tell Eric or Ryan I sent you!

If you’re looking to head north of 635…yes, we do exist up here…come by the Coppell location and say HI! We may be the suburbs, but folks are right neighborly out here!

We are more low-key and, at least we like to think  , friendlier than Luke’s.

White Rock Lake is a decent place to run, but IMHO the Katy Trail is highly over-rated. A lesiurely run through the streets between the Mockingbird store and the Lake is a really nice way to check out the neighborhood. Folks in the Dallas store can give you some route suggestions.

Give the store a call when you hit town…972-956-5550…ask for Gail.

Park Cities Running Group runs on the weekdays morning. Meet at Luke’s Locker (www.lukeslocker.com), I think (But i doubt they start at 5:30 am  Check their website for the info - http://www.wwshipley.com/runners/

Like they’ve mentioned, Katy Trail is the closest running route from the Crescent Hotel if you don’t mind running on the concrete surface. If you are more flexible, White rock Lake is a much better place to run

Thanks for all the tips! Definitely helps me orient towards the right routes. I think I start by finding Katy trail and go from there.

Unfortunately, I won’t have time to check out White Rock Lake, but I appreciate the advice.

From the Crescent it is really easy to get to the Katy trail - I always just went down the hill at Maple (should be a left out of the crescent on Maple) and that drops you off right at the trail. Just so you know, the Katy Trail is elevated at that point, so you’re looking for an old railway-type bridge crossing Maple. Another options is to go along the parkway at the bottom of the hill - very nice houses but not much sidewalk or trail. Early in the morning you shouldn’t have much traffic to worry about. From the Crescent to the Katy Trail, up to the end of the trail (heading north) and back should work out to about 8 miles or so. Last time I was there the trail quit around Airport Rd (I think that’s the name) - before SMU, perhaps it goes even farther now.

Good luck,

Josh

Thanks Josh. The directions help (and hints to look for elevated access points). I am going to the KATY trail suggestion. And ~8 miles is about right for me.

All -

I had a great run this morning along the KATY trail and through SMU. Thanks for the tips! Without them, no way would I have found such a good route without knowing the city.

I am heading back to Dallas next week, and staying at the Fairmont (so closer to downtown than the Crescent). I enjoyed the KATY trail last year (thanks to everyone). Looking at the map, I was wondering if the trail along the Trinity River is good for running early. Any advice? In particular, what is the best way to access the Trinity River greenbelt?

thanks in advance!
