Running gurus: Nike Free plus Superfeet

I need help from the running gurus.

I am going to try to get my 10km run into the low 40’s (currently ~48min). I have been using Adidas Supernova Cushion (meaning, I am not much of a pronator, and have fairly high arches), but I find them heavy and am looking for a lighter option, both for training and racing. I plan to do most of my running on treadmills through the upcoming winter.

I have been playing around with a pair of Nike Free 5.0s will Superfeet insoles. I REALLY like the feel, but wonder if the superfeet are countering the benefits of the Free’s? My only problem is the Free’s don’t fit right so I’d like to get a light pair of Adizeros and add the superfeet.

My questions:

What are the thoughts of a Nike Free/Superfeet combo?
What Adizero model is the best combo of light/neutral (Adidas keeps changing the names!)
What other shoe brands fit like Adidas?

Thanks in advance.

What are the thoughts of a Nike Free/Superfeet combo?
In my opinion it would be the equivalent of you adding caffeine to your decaf coffee.

What Adizero model is the best combo of light/neutral (Adidas keeps changing the names!)
Adidas Adizero Boston are their light neutral trainers (9 oz).
If you want something lighter you could go with the Adizero Ace, Mana or Adios. I currently use the Manas, they are supposed to have some support but it’s very minimal. They are very light but kinda narrow.

a pair of insoles will not change the fact you are running in distinctly minimalist shoes

the free is the best minimalist training shoes on the market right now IMO, although I have heard good things about kswiss and the biom looks good but is so expensive
.

Nike Free/Superfeet combo - both are great products, but together they counteract what each is trying to do.

FYI… your Supernova Cushion is now the Supernova Glide. Yes the adizero models are lighter weight. You could try a ton of different shoes, but how light are you looking to get? Since you use the Superfeet I am assuming you have dealt with some injuries? If so, maybe going too much lighter without the proper run form training isn’t the smartest idea.

Mizuno and Brooks are the first two that come to mind that may provide the right feel and weight for a nice 10K shoe for you.

I would be interested to know what color Superfeet you use, if you wear them in your Supernova’s and if you have trouble with injuries/aches/pains on a regular basis?

Thanks for the input.

I have actually never dealt with to much injury, other than minor shin splints, and not in many years. I had the Frees because I ran in them once a week to help build foot strength, and I did think they worked.

I tried the orange, which the highest support, but didn’t like it. I now have the green, which feel good.

Perfect, then you have the right idea as far as Nike Free’s are concerned. Although adding the Superfeet, expecially the green or orange counteract what the Free is meant to do.

You must have a high arch… is that why you don’t like the Free without the Superfeet? Nike has the Lunarglide witch is pretty cool, not AS heavy as your Supernova’s and has a great concept. Depending on your foot it can feel pretty good too!

You could also try the Asics Speedstar with your green SF. That’s a nice combination and will lighten you up a bit.
