Runner Hospitalized With Severe Case Of Carbonatremia

This is just absolutely mind blowing. I can’t believe people actually do this to themselves. Did he really think this is what the Kenyan’s do before a marathon?

A Twin Cities resident and runner registered for the June 18th Grandma’s Marathon was rushed to Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park yesterday after consuming too many carbohydrates. Dave Anderson, 28, of the Minneapolis suburb of Hopkins, lost consciousness as his wife was driving him home from the New China Buffet in Bloomington late yesterday evening.

“He had been eating a lot all day,” said John Juergenson, M.D., Methodists Chief of Carbolic Surgery, who operated on Anderson upon his arrival at the hospital.

While choking-back tears, Anderson’s wife, Wendy, recalled that her husband began the day with 2 boxes of Cinnamon Brown Sugar Pop-Tarts and 16 bowls of Honey Nut Cheerios. In fact, he ate so much cereal that he began to apply Bodyglide to the roof of his mouth to avoid chafing. He then went to Perkins where he ate the Buttermilk-5 stack of pancakes. For lunch, Anderson visited the Olive Garden at 394 Frontage Road in St. Louis Park, where he took advantage of their Endless Pasta Bowl by consuming 9 helpings of fettuccini and either 15 or 16 breadsticks.

By the time Anderson was ready to go to the New China Buffet, he was no longer able to drive, so his wife had to take over.

Ken Rosen is a Minnesota-based entrepreneur, distance runner and struggling humorist. The preceding article is entirely fictitious.

.

Ken’s “articles” are always much funnier if you know the people involved…his stuff is usually pretty damn funny! And he’s a very solid marathoner (<3:10) too!!

This is just absolutely mind blowing. I can’t believe people actually do this to themselves. Did he really think this is what the Kenyan’s do before a marathon?

What’s mind-blowing is that you thought that was a true story :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I admit it. I did think it was real. I thought it was real when he ate two boxes of cereal. I thought it was real when he had nine servings of pasta at the Olive Garden. I thought it was all real. The only thing I didn’t think was real was his wife driving him around because he couldn’t. That I just couldn’t buy.

Truthfully, Ken is from Minneapolis like me. I just wanted to share his work with some people possibly not familiar with it. It’s even more funny to read if you know of the places he’s talking about.

we traveled to Duluth in 2003 to run that race I love it up there. my wife was born and raised there, but moved away 40 years ago.
