Run Time prediction

I know this sort of things is dependent on various different factors, but is there some kind of formula that you can use to predict your run time in a triathlon based on a stand-alone running race?

Do you think this prediction might be accurate:

I run 23’48" on 5K → 25’ in a Sprint Tri
→ 50’ on a standalone 10k
→ 52’ for the run in an Olympic triathlon

Six hours.

17 minutes and 42 seconds.

Nearly impossible for the info you gave. You didn’t even give a preferred distance.

I think he’s looking for the formula, not the output of the formula.

I think you will run slower then +2mins of your stand alone 10k. More around 55 depending on your fitness and run training.

Edit: I have no idea what you are asking.

might try www.triathloncalculator.com
.

for 5k up to 1/2 mary most folks see a time increase of 5-10% in their tri run split vs. open run split.

I add about 10% to a 5km
maybe 15% to a 10km

and 50% to a marathon. :frowning:

That is great I was going to say a six hour half the first number doesn’t matter I know 20 min 5K guys who probably would drop dead in a 10K.

My opinions:

Sprint - within 1 or maybe 2 minutes at most.
Oly - 2-3 minutes to 10% (depends on speed)
Half IM - 4-5 minutes to 10%.
IM - 15-20 min in a very few, good would be 20-30 min or roughly 15-20%. Most are much higher than this…

Assuming good pacing/execution of course…
