I was recently told bu someone who teste for a Danish bike mag that my vision tech trimax aero bars would not pass new rules about the thickness of the bars compared to the depth…WTF? Is there really any rules saying that the bars have to be a certain thickness compared to the depth (30% was thrown around I think). I am racing in Denmark in August (IM) and UK (Viruviean HIM) in September (I love to say race but I really mean turning up and trying to finish!). My bars are not old so would be very suprised and slightly horrified if this guy was right!
THe guy is right but for the events you’re doing it doesn’t matter.
Here’s some coverage

and some clarification on the ‘clarificatrion’
What events are covered by these rules? Is it just the Ironman events? Its just that I am hoping to do IM Canada or Oz next year so would need to replace my bars in that case. doh
No just UCI events. Someone a bit more cycling focussed will have to tell you what that means in the US (or your home country) - I believe it’s cycling nationals and stuff like that. The rules don’t apply to any ironamn events or any triathlons to my knowledge.
As far as I know - much ado about nothing regarding their use in triathlon. The new confusing UCI regs apply to UCI sanctioned bike races and TT’s only. And even then, it’s been my personal experience that cycling officials only pull out the measuring tapes at the national championship level ie at most local, regional, club, TT’s, bikes are not checked.
Thanks to all for the info. Ill be hanging onto my bars for a while longer then! no championship races for in the near future…![]()
I’m currently swapping out my Vision Tri max integrated bars for 3T Mistral Pro bars due to the latest rules enforcement, but this is only because I’m focussing on racing road ITT’s. For IM and other tris excluding draft legal your bars are fine…
