Rudy project wingspan price

Do rudy helmets ever go on sale for less then 50% off?
Anyone know of a deal on a new aero helmet from any company that beats $150?

ebay has some cheap ones but not new.

good lord how much of a discount do you want? 50% off on a brand new top-of-the-line helmet!

Um, the helmet isn’t worth $300 and pretty much everyone knows that. Paying full price for RP or Xterra gear is retarded–it’s almost constantly on sale for 40-50% off of their own “retail price.” The paradox is that since their stuff is on sale more often than not (or discounted to an equivalent amount through the extensive network of “representatives” or whatever they call the folks that help them push their product), the true retail price is closer to $150 for the helmet, so instead of seeing the helmet “on sale” for $150, you should look at as being price-hiked when it’s not “on sale.”

No triathlon helmet is worth $300 from a functional standpoint…there are plenty of others available with equal or better performance at a far better price point.

No. I’ve never seen a discount steeper than the current 50%

I’ve seen 60, but only once in about 4 years. I think that was a combination of rudy deals + my coach’s deals.

My tri club regularly gets 60% I believe, although we’ve gotten some better deals than that before on 1-time bulk orders. Pretty sure I only paid $40 or $45 for my last Sterling…it certainly wasn’t $50 or more or else I wouldn’t have bought it.

Do tell. I’m curious. Been thinking about getting one, but don’t care so much I want to slog through reviews, etc.

Wind tunnel data on helmets is iffy because of the substantial variability between rider positions that affect the net effect of the helmet on the overall aerodynamics of the rider. Also, some helmets do better at low yaw, others do better at high-yaw.

I guess my point is that it’s hard to say that one helmet is significantly faster than another until you tunnel test, which for most people is way out of the question. With that being the case, I think it’s foolish to spend $300 on a helmet which claims “gains” that are specious until evaluated objectively for the individual rider. If it’s a short-tailed, well-ventilated helmet you want, why not go for the Lazer Tardiz? I see that in the low $100’s pretty frequently in late-season sales.

Youre critcizing the rp wingspan for not being aero and youre recommending the lazer tardiz, lol

Hey look, the more literate of my two favorite trolls is here.

I never said it wasn’t aero, I simply said there are others with comparable performance at a fraction of the “MSRP.” “Equal or better” is sort of a nebulous claim anyway, because as I mentioned above, helmet aerodynamics is highly individual-specific. Is that statement wrong?

How bad do you think the Tardiz is?
