Does anyone have any recommendations on the Rudy Photochromic lenses? Was looking at the Impactx-2 Clear to Black for my Noyz glasses. Figured those would be best of the photochromic ones because they have the biggest range of light transmission from 9 to 74%.
self bump - any recommendations?
It depends on how you are using them. If you want an “all-everything” lens to take you from low light to sunlight, the clear photochromics are good for that. If you can, though, getting a low light (clear or yellow) lens and then also getting the polarized photochromic lens for the rest of the time is probably the best option. The polarized photo lens is really nice, because the clarity with a polarized lens is much better than a standard lens. And since it is photochromic, there is a wider range of light in which it can be used.

I recently got those exact lenses for the Noyz. It does get very clear in low light (no problems keeping them on at night), but I was expecting it to get darker during sunrise and sunset situations where you’re looking right into the sun. My Oakleys which I think are rated at 12% seem to be much darker, but maybe the photochromic lenses aren’t supposed to get that dark in those situations due to lower UV exposure during those times.
For daytime riding, they’re fine. I have been using photochromic lenses for riding for 3 years now. I started with cheaper Tifosi lenses that would get dark, but not nearly as clear. Then I went to the earlier version of the Rudy Project Photochromic lenses that had a range of ~18% to ~64%. I’m still happy with these lenses…just wish they actually went to 9% during sunrise and sunset.
Thanks guys. Great feedback, that’s very helpful.
I just changed from the photochromic red to clear, and well, they work. I’m not particularly sensitive nor care too much about optics but like having a lens that I don’t have to worry about, and in that regard they work great. Shade, sun, overcast, etc. all seems fine to me.
I have both the clear and red, and love them. If I had my choice, I would most likely opt for the red, as they seem to get darker in bright light, and also the red tint seems to help visibility in hazy conditions. The enhanced contrast with a red lens seems to be nice in that time where it’s approaching darkness, yet I was actually surprised at how dark the lenses got in sun. Both are awesome, and I wouldn’t EVER ride or run without my Rudys!!!
