What is the optimal rpm for regular endurance training. I dont have access to a road or tri bike just yet so all my riding has been done on a stationary bike. I usually do between 120-140 rpm’s at whichever mph I’m working with. Am I doing this right or should I be doing less rpm’s and more resistance?
hey whatever you’re comfy at and more efficient but 120-140 is pretty damn high… I’d say typical “efficient” range for most is in the 80-100ish area. Some bigger riders are even in the 70ish range. I know people who we’ll spin 110+ (me for instance in a short TT) but not many that spin even close to that high for a longer race.
I’m not surprised that you’re spinning higher on a stationary bike though, I tend to spin higher on a spin bike type and then a bit lower on a road or tri bike or even a road bike on a trainer.
