Rough day today

we had to put one of our cats down today, he suddenly got really sick and ended up with damaged kidneys. I feel weird about this.

And, I found out I might have mild asthma, which might partly explain why my running sucks.

not to be mean, but… any chance that your allergy may have been related to the cat?

Sincerely sorry to hear that dude. Mine gave me quite a scare earlier this year but she is fine now. Funny thing was I started out not wanting the damn cat, now I don’t want to lose her.

frog legs, i’m so sorry to hear this news…

I know how you feel. Last year, we had to put two of our cats to sleep. The first one was from cancer, the second one we aren’t sure of. The second one got sick almost immediately after the first was gone, and it was a really a tough time for our family. I just had to realize that things like that happen. About a month later, a stray cat started visiting our house, ended up to be pregnant, and we now have three cats running around the house. Kind of proves the “circle of life” I guess.

That sucks brother. I feel for ya.

:frowning:

I’m sorry to hear about your kitty…I really am. That’s sad news. I would be having a rough day too if I had to put my cat down. Some days she’s all I’ve got.

I hope tomorrow is brighter for you.

I know I said I hated cats, but pets are pets and I’m really sorry!! :frowning:

Putting a pet down is hard for an animal lover. It was the hardest thing for me to do even though I knew it was for the best. He looked right at me until his eyes finally closed.

As for the asthma, there are inhalents that will help. I had a mild case of excersiced induced asthma that the doc gave me an inhalent for. Works great but I only use it if my workouts are going to be strenuous. I also take a puff just before an event. Sometimes I feel like it’s cheating but when the chest and throat tighten up it’s not fun.

Bummer. : (

I used to be a cat hater, then my wife (then GF) had one, and then she adopted another one, and I lived w/ them for several years. The younger one got feline leukemia, and had to be put down. It was the worst day of my life, I wept like a baby, just sobbing uncontrollably. I’m gonna be a mess when it comes time for the dog, don’t even wanna think about that.

As for the asthma, look at the bright side - you now have a pre-set excuse for not running well. (as opposed to the one’s we don’t wanna admit to, like: I don’t train w/enough frequency, or duration, or intensity, or I had the wrong parents, etc.) And now you can shop for a cool CF or Ti inhaler.

Tomorrow can’t help but be a better day.

Sorry, Froggie. I went through it with my dog of 16 years. It’s a real downer.

asthma - don’t think so, but maybe

are inhalers illegal in races? When I asked the doc abouot tris, he said just take a few puffs before running. If it helped, great. Just seems like cheating.

Thanks everyone. It sucks, it just happened suddenly. Fred was only 4. GF is upset, the other cat is acting strange, he definitely knows something bad is going down.

next time you see USAT handing out piss cups let me know… AG’ers have nothing to fear from the puffers… although when i swam, if you were on the top-50 list in any event FINA could knock on your door with out notice at any time. happened to a friend who was 43rd in the 400 IM… when i realized that top 50 for testing really meant top 50 i really cleaned up.

Sorry about your loss. I had to make the decision to have my cat euthanized just before the start of IMCDA 2005 at about 6:50 am. It was truely awful. I had been up all night angonizing about what to do after learning she had been hit by a car back at home while waiting for x-rays etc and trying to unsuccessfully reach my husband deployed in Iraq. At least you were there with your cat.

Started the race an emotional basketcase. Had a really much worse than usual asthma attack in the swim. All day my mind was on my cat. At mile 13 in the run just could keep it together anymore for what was supposed t obe by 9th IM finish.

Be kind to yourself while you grieve.

You can get a letter from your doctor that says the medication is medically necessary; you can then get a Therapeutic Use Exception from the ITU (and/or USATriathlon, I guess). I did the former when I did bike races, but never bothered to file it with the USCF (like they care about a Cat 4).

Been through that three times in the last several years: a cat and two dogs. Doesn’t get any easier.

That’s terrible. I am so sorry to hear this. My best wishes are with you My Friend.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. Cats are cool!! My wife and I have to put down our 15 year old this Friday. Our vet is going to come to our house to do it. This week has sucked real bad so I know what you’re going through.

Hang in there. : (

I’m sorry to hear about Fred, I lost a kitty recently and think of her often. I’m glad you still have another kitty in the house, it helps take away the sting you feel when you are looking for kitty.

Thinking of you…
