So one of my buddies has a kid in his neighborhood who has a Medium TTX and the bike is just perfect. It looks as though it has hardly even seen the road. I inspected for cracks, anything…perfect. He bought too much bike and can’t afford to pay the bills…it has to go.
I have not been sized for one and don’t have all the prerequisite stack/reach numbers I should have, just don’t. I kept on putting it off, but then this op just fell in front of me. I know what I’m about to give off doesn’t get it exact, but hopefully it’s enough to say ‘no way’ or ‘yea you are in the ball park’.
I currently ride a 58 Madone, fits like a glove. 789mm saddle height in a very relaxed/setback position. 6’1" with a 34.5" inseam. Size 10.5 shoes.
I just can’t pass this up methinks. The kid said he would take $1,500 cash. I’m slightly nervous if it doesn’t fit that I can even unload it. He had it on ebay for 1,800 and didn’t even get one bid. I mean the TTX’s on eBay are not moving one bit…it’s scary.
Dunno if any of the numbers I gave would work, but maybe it can rule me out/preclude me from doing it.
I have your same measurements - One local TREK dealer told me a Med TTX would work and I tried one out and it felt O.K. around the parking lot. However, my favorite fitter told me it wouldn’t, I would be better on the Large. I trust my fit guy…
I think you should it to take it into your favorite LBS fitter, even if it costs you. Sounds like a great deal and if it works you got the fit done.
I currently ride a 58cm Pro fit Madone. I ended up getting a L size TTX but should have went with the M size. On my L TTX, since it is a bit too big, the stem is a 70mm with the ends of the aerobar ends almost hitting my knees while climbing. The next TTX will be a M size for sure!
Top tube wise I know I won’t want a Large, but on the Medium sized frame I’m a bit nervous I won’t have enough head tube and be forced to leave a huge amount of steerer tube out to accommodate a less than flexible back…
TTX_tri…what kind of saddle height do you have and how much bar drop? Just trying to get a point of comparison…this TTX won’t be around for long at 1500…
Little bit different dimensions than you, but hopefully this can give you a comparison. I am 5’10’’ with a 32" inseam (longer legs, shorter torso). I ride a size S. I have a 70mm 17 degree stem (which I am currently working on lowering my position). I have the seat post flipped forward to get steep and the Adamo saddle I have is a little more than half way forward on the rails. I heart my TTX.
Hey, I went through the same thing, I ride a 58 Madome also, Everyone at the local bike store said I need a Medium but one guy who said I need a Large ( I really trust him). I had a friend selling a Medium so I tried it out and it was the wrong size. I ordered the Large and it was the perfect size. I am 6’0 and about a 185 pounds. Will the guy let you try it out??
Medium TTX 9.5, 6’2", 10.5 shoes, 34.5 inseam, 790 mm from center of bb to top of seat. Medium is perfect for me. LBS wanted me on a large, but didn’t have one for me to try. Found mine at end of season prices at a different shop, only a medium in stock, got fit to it, have loved it ever since. Its easily the most I have enjoyed riding a bike, ever.
I am very close to your size at 6’1" with 35" inseam. I have a Medium and it fits great - u can reference pic and measurements on my profile. I have a 100mm stem.
I think it depends on how you plan to fit on the bike. If you desire to ride steep, say 78 - 80, then the M should be perfect.
Yea I tend to agree, I always want to err in terms of having a top tube a bit short b/c I can always go a bit longer on the stem. I have never liked the way a bike handles with a short stem…can be extremely twitchy and in the aero position that is SCARY to this 'ol dawg.
Thanks to all you TTX’ers out there for the great info. I really think this Medium is going to be a god fit and I’m taking it out today for a spin. The only other thing I’m a bit worried about is the warranty is not transferrable obviously…won’t be the first guy to risk buying used carbon, but this IS my dream steed…will post some pics if I do the deed!
saddle height is 780mm from center of BB to top of saddle. I have (holy crap) 25mm of spacers in the steerer tube too. The stem I am using is 70mm with a 7 degree rise.
Don’t hesitate to buy used…however, the fit is important.
You should have ample opportunity to have a picture snapped of you upon the bike. If you can get a side shot and post it here we can tell you pretty quickly if the frame will work.
